Job overview

VAUVERT PRIMARY SCHOOL, GUERNSEY

Each Primary School in Guernsey is required to provide support for learners from a specialist Reading Recovery and Literacy Intervention Teacher for young people who experience difficulties in acquiring language and literacy skills.

We are seeking a well-qualified and motivated Reading Recovery and Literacy Intervention Teacher who will work throughout the primary age range, providing assessment, specialist support and intervention to designated learners in whole class, small group and one-to-one environments.

Reading Recovery and Literacy Intervention Teachers are required to work closely with class teachers, other support services, teachers from the Dyslexia Day Centre and other agencies. You will have experience of making appropriate provision to identify and meet the specific needs of learners and will be able to present verbal and written reports describing intervention strategies to teaching colleagues, parents and pupils. Ideally, you will be qualified as a Reading Recovery teacher.

Furthermore, you will need to demonstrate a commitment to high standards of teaching and learning, and will be expected to make a full contribution to the life of the school. You will not be expected to undertake PPA or supply cover duties.

This is an excellent opportunity to work at Vauvert Primary School. The school has a growing and successful record for supporting and challenging pupils with SEN, through focussed and effective intervention programmes.

The post is 0.6 (FTE), working five mornings and one afternoon (the afternoon to be negotiated).

This post carries a five year housing licence. If appointed, you can expect to:

  • Work in a well-resourced school that follows an innovative Bailiwick curriculum based on the English National Curriculum and which has favourable PTRs;
  • Be part of a leading development of ICT in education and be allocated a personal laptop;
  • Receive a generous relocation package to the island, including rent allowance;
  • Enjoy the benefits of more generous tax allowances on an island with no VAT.

Salary will be in accordance with the Main Pay Scale of £28,534 - £40,972 per annum. There is also an Upper Pay Scale of £43,271 - £46,024 per annum for teachers who have successfully gone through the Threshold Assessment. You will also be entitled to a Special Schools Allowance of £2,975 per annum.
