About Alec Hunter Academy

Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed, oversubscribed 11-16 comprehensive school with an established reputation as a welcoming and forward-thinking learning community. As a member of the Saffron Academy Trust, we work in close partnership with a small family of schools in north-west Essex, including Saffron Walden County High, one of the highest performing schools in the county. Numerous opportunities for professional development exist through this partnership and our membership of several local networks.

At Alec Hunter Academy, we pride ourselves on the positive relationships we engender between our young people and the adults who work with them on a day-to-day basis. We believe that students learn best when they feel valued and when the expectations of them are high.

We anticipate that our learners will attend school with a positive attitude to learning, that they will embrace challenge where they encounter it and will be enthusiastic, resourceful, adaptable and resilient.

Our partnership with Saffron Walden County High School, one of the highest performing schools in Essex, through the sponsorship of the Saffron Academy Trust, has injected fresh impetus into the school and will undoubtedly have a significant impact as the links develop.

We hope that our young people will leave Alec Hunter with happy memories, having enjoyed a range of experiences that have prepared them for the next phase of their education and for their adult lives.
