ACS International Schools are recruiting a Recreation Assistant to join the team at ACS Cobham International School.

We are looking for an experienced Recreation Assistant who is looking to make their first step into supervisory management. Whist the role is at a Recreation Assistant level, we are looking for an individual who is capable of providing cover at Duty Manager level and ultimately progressing to this level of the organisation as opportunities become available.

We are able to provide key training & development, that will include the Level 2 Fitness Instructors certificate and Pool Plant Operators certificate.

The Recreation Assistant will provide a quality service for all members of the ACS community and other user groups through the safe and effective day-to-day operation of the Sports Centre and other sports facilities at ACS International School Cobham.

The post holder will work as part of the team at ACS Cobham and you will be working within a campus of outstanding facilities in a beautiful countryside setting, inclusive of world-class facilities like our swimming pool, sports centre, and state-of-the-art theatre

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

Essential

  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
  • Emergency 1st Aid (1-Day)

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a sports/leisure environment
  • 1st Aid at Work (3-Day)
  • National Pool Plant Operators Certificate (3-Day)
  • Fitness Instructors (Level 2)

Principal Accountabilities

  • Maintain concentrated observation and pro-active supervision to ensure the safe use of the Swimming Pool by all its various pool users. Maintain and rotate pool positions as outlined in the swimming pool Normal Operating Procedures (NOP) and maintain communication with colleagues at all times.
  • Carry out rescues, administer 1st Aid and initiate other emergency action as and when necessary, in accordance with the Sports Centre NOP and Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Ensure all emergency first aid equipment and poolside emergency equipment is present and working correctly.
  • Responsible or completing other duties as assigned by line manager and appropriate for the role and level experience.
  • Carry out regular pool water testing as prescribed in the swimming pool NOP and report any discrepancies to the on-shift Supervisor.
  • Maintain safe, clean and hygienic conditions throughout the Sports Centre and outdoor sports facilities by carrying out tasks identified within the pro-active daily/weekly cleaning schedule.
  • Regular inspection of all areas of the Sports Centre and outdoor sports facilities and initiating any re-active tasks to ensure that a high standard of hygiene and presentation is maintained at all times.
  • Operating various electrical/motorised cleaning equipment in order to complete required pro-active & re-active tasks.
  • Responsible for making safe and reporting any defective areas or items of equipment.
  • Prepare indoor & outdoor sports facilities according to the programme specified on the daily booking schedule. Set up and break down necessary equipment, ensuring that it is correctly and safely stored and in a good state of repair.
  • Provide cover for Sports Centre reception from time to time as directed, carrying out the front of house duties incumbent with this position.
  • Act as a designated Fire Marshall for the Sports Centre.
  • Able to deliver a range of activities to children enrolled on the ACS Holiday Activity programme (enhanced payment made for these specific duties).
  • Able to provide shift cover for the Duty Manager role (subject to qualifications, training and experience).

Start date: As soon as possible.

Working hours: 40 hours per week based on a mixture of shifts, inclusive of early, middle, and late shifts. Alternate weekend working will be required.
