About Hutchesons' Grammar School

Hutchesons’ Grammar School has been a Glasgow institution for almost 400 years and when our pupils leave us in Sixth year they do so knowing they belong to the wider Hutchie community.

A common trait of all Hutchie pupils is the desire to achieve to their best abilities in whichever area their talents lie. This desire to achieve is the heartbeat of Hutchie. We are rightly proud of our reputation for academic excellence. This year 68% of all S5 Highers were awarded grade A. An impressive 40% of S5 pupils received 5 A grades or more and 20% gained 6 Highers at grade A.

However, a Hutchesons’ education offers so much more and many of our pupils excel in the Arts.  Our state of the art, drama studios offer pupils the chance to hone performance skills, while our art pupils regularly make the finals of national competitions. And with over 300 pupils learning musical instruments there are enormous opportunities to play or sing in over 20 orchestras, bands, chamber ensembles and choirs. In four out of the last five years all SQA Higher Music exams were awarded grade A.

Our sports facilities are already among the best in the country and we are now investing over the next three years to improve them further. In the last year our pupils have represented Scotland in Hockey, Athletics, Rowing, Football, Squash and Karate. At Hutchie we believe Fitness and health for life is a habit to begin early.

Learning at Hutchie begins in our new Pre-school class and continues with a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy throughout Primary. The opportunities for learning in Secondary are vast and we have a robust pastoral care system in place to support our pupils as they journey through school. We also run a large variety of clubs and societies across both the Primary and Secondary. Almost four centuries on from when the school first opened its doors we continue to nurture our Founders’ vision and encourage our pupils to aspire to be honest, resilient, independent, curious, creative and compassionate to others.

Belong and Achieve at Hutchesons’.
