Job overview

Because children deserve the best.

Children and young people deserve the best – the best education, the best further education and skills, and the best social care. Here at Ofsted, we undertake inspections that celebrate the very best practices and challenge the less than good in order to improve standards. We are constantly challenging ourselves too, with a radical transformation programme currently in place to change the way we work, and support our inspections. Join us, and you’ll play a key part in making change happen.

You will have the chance to improve millions of lives as you lead one of Ofsted’s eight regions. Responsible for a team of highly skilled inspectors, you will ensure a high standard of inspection and regulation activity that puts the outcomes for children and learners first at all times. Your performance will be measured by your ability to drive improvement in providers that are less than good. What’s more, as a member of the corporate leadership team, you will provide strategic advice, share regional successes and contribute to the development and delivery of national performance targets.

To be a Regional Director for Ofsted, you will need a proven track record of leadership at a senior level in children’s social care, education or further education and skills, including developing senior staff and managing finances. Persuasive, diplomatic and skilled at developing complex external relations with chief executives, council leaders, service directors, regional schools commissioners or academy directors; you will have significant experience of driving the improvement of services and outcomes. Above all, you will be resilient, with the ability to act with confidence, conviction and clarity in the face of challenge.

An enhanced DBS check will be required.
