Cavendish Education

At Cavendish Education, we see past the labels associated with learning differences and instead see the young person and their potential. Now in our eighth year of operation, we have 12 schools and a range of exciting opportunities as we continue to expand to meet the needs of more young people.

Cavendish Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Applicants must be able to provide evidence of having the right to live and work in the UK and be prepared to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Applicants must undergo child protection screening, including checks with previous employers.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team, working to support a relational approach to teaching and learning which influences our whole school ethos and systems, as well as everyday practice.

Our Eastern Region Schools offer education placements for children and young people with very complex needs, often living in complex circumstances. Many of our learners have diagnoses of Autism and have experienced exclusion from mainstream settings. The Eastern Region Schools currently are:

• Gretton School, Cambridgeshire

• Wilds Lodge School, Rutland

• Quorn Hall School, Leicestershire

• Hardwick House School, Loughborough

Our Schools are committed to offering a relational approach to education, informed by specialist knowledge of Autism and SEMH. Children and Young People who attend our schools have frequently experienced disrupted relationships as a consequence of their needs not being understood or met in other settings. Our schools are committed to offering learners reparative experiences of relationships in order to enable them to meet their full potential. Within this overarching relational frame, we draw on evidence based approaches such as restorative practice and positive behaviour support to meet the needs of our students and support the wellbeing of the whole school community

The role

We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated and enthusiastic Educational Psychologist to support the development and delivery of our therapeutic service across specialist independent schools in the Eastern Region. A specialism in Autism and / or SEMH is desirable. Experience in developing and improving a psychology service would also be an advantage.

Working in collaboration with the Clinical Psychologist, you would be delivering psychological support as part of a multi-disciplinary team comprising Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Creative Therapists. You will work predominantly at a strategic and systemic level but also therapeutically with children and young people. You’ll provide psychological assessment, intervention, consultation, guidance for education and care teams and professional development training for all staff. The role involves communicating with families/ carers and specialist agencies.

You will need to be creative and passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with complex needs. This is a challenging role and you must be able to cope with stressful interpersonal situations whilst maintaining a high degree of professionalism.

The ideal candidate will be resilient and have experience of working with children and young people with complex SEMH needs and ASD. You will need to be a good communicator with strong skills in assessment and report writing.

Cavendish Education is committed to supporting the continued professional development of all staff and offers a CPD budget to support psychologists to develop their knowledge and practice. Regular external psychological supervision will be provided by a suitably qualified Consultant Educational Psychologist. We anticipate that the Cavendish Education psychology team will grow over the coming years with potential to recruit both assistant grade and qualified psychologists. This is an exciting  time to join our psychology provision in schools and shape the developing service.

Our schools are based in Leicestershire, Rutland and Cambridgeshire. Travel between sites will be required, however expenses are paid from the base school (closest school to candidate). The role is offered full time, term time only (39 weeks plus 2 weeks out of term time, allocated for report writing etc). There may be a requirement to work additional hours, as necessitated by the needs of the business including during school holidays or at other times outside your normal hours of work, however this will be avoided where possible.

About Cavendish Education Limited

Cavendish Education is a family of independent day and boarding schools and colleges for students between the ages of five and 21.

As a group, we are transforming the common perception of specialist education and throughout our schools, we challenge what it means to be neurodiverse by supporting our students to excel in ways they never thought possible.

We believe we are unparalleled in our approach, which sits between mainstream and traditional special school education. Our curriculum supports and nurtures students with a diagnosis of high functioning autism and associated communication and language needs, as well as those with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, and dyscalculia.

At the heart of Cavendish Education is a commitment to enabling all our students to thrive – when they are with us and after they leave us.  All the activities on our curriculum aim to instill four core attributes;  we believe these are key contributors to student wellbeing and success.

  • Confidence,
  • Competence,
  • Creativity,
  • Character.

Seeing potential in every student

The ability to think differently is celebrated and encouraged at our schools and colleges. Seeing extraordinary ability in every single one of our students, we unlock and nurture their potential.

The holistic and differentiated academic curriculums in our schools and colleges are designed to ignite the imaginations of students with unique learning profiles and nurture their innate talents and abilities. A range of enrichment activities, such as sport, technology, the arts, outdoor education, and life skills, further enables our students to grow.

In the ethos of Cavendish Education, each of our schools and colleges has developed its own character, facilities, and strengths. Together, our schools and staff are committed to allowing every student to shine while they are with us and to achieve success in education or employment when they leave us.

CavendishWORKS is our most ambitious project yet and it has a single, world-changing aim: to secure long-term, meaningful employment for all our students when they leave us.

Traditionally, many schools and employers consider a student’s academic attainment as the primary indicator of their future success. For this reason, young people with unique learning profiles often face barriers in adulthood, including difficulties in securing employment.

The percentage of neurodiverse adults in meaningful jobs is woefully low at a time when some employers are struggling to recruit. This seems, in part, due to a lack of confidence shown by employers. By providing awareness, and dispelling myths around neurodiversity, CavendishWORKS is challenging the status quo.

We are very proud of all our students and their many achievements. They show that with the right support, those who think differently can make vital contributions to our world while leading happy and successful lives.

Our history

Our founder, Aatif Hassan, was inspired by his own life experiences to establish Cavendish Education.

Having been through the education system with dyslexia, he understands the need to give those who are neurologically diverse the tools to create successful and meaningful lives. Aatif himself went on to achieve a successful career, both in business and as an officer in the Army before founding Cavendish Education in 2013.

Cavendish Education is driven by Aatif ‘s dedication to nurturing those young people who think differently, enabling them to lead happy and productive lives. It is his desire to change the perception of what it means to be neurologically diverse through the achievements of Cavendish Education’s students and the quality of its curriculums.

"Our pupils go on to do some amazing things in all walks of life. They show discipline, concentration and commitment..." Aatif Hassan, Founder

Cavendish Education is committed to safeguarding and child protection and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
