Job overview

We are looking for an experienced Executive Principal, or highly successful Principal, to join the Harris Federation as our Regional Director for Primary Education. This is a high profile post in the Federation with considerable responsibility and plays a major role in overseeing Primary education across our 22 Primary academies around London. This is a unique opportunity to join an established and highly experienced central primary improvement team. Working alongside our Primary Director to lead a team of Primary Executive Principals and Consultants, this is the chance to take on an exciting role which can impact outcomes across a large number of academies.

We are looking for a senior leader who shares our vision for transforming education. You should be a strong communicator with proven strengths in engaging, inspiring and motivating staff at all levels, and working with local communities to bring about change. The successful candidate will need a strong track record of high performance and an understanding of how to work across a group of primary schools. Travel around London will also be required and you should be able to work flexibly and prioritise the needs of different academies.

About Primary Education at Harris:

Primary education at Harris comprises 19 Primary academies, plus 3 all-through academies, with every inspected academy has been judged Good or Outstanding (79% Outstanding). Some of these academies are new free schools, but most were previously failing schools located in challenging areas of London. Our group results were 76% at Key Stage 2 this summer.

Our central primary team consists of a Primary Director, a number of Executive Principals and a team of specialist teaching and learning consultants, all of whom have extensive knowledge and experience to help support our growing number of primary and all through academies. As part of the central team you will be based out of our head office in East Croydon, just 5 minutes from the station giving easy access to London Bridge, London Victoria and fast access to the M25.

Why work for the Harris Federation?

As a top performing Multi-Academy Trust, we offer access to a professional and supportive community of academies, executive leaders, and support. The Harris Federation is a successful, highly collaborative and enterprising group of academies in and around London. Our network of academies is setting standards of excellence through an experienced and supportive approach with the aim that every child in London can have the best possible education, enabling them to fulfil their potential and decide their own future. The focus of the Harris Federation is on transforming some of the most challenging schools in London into exceptional places of learning. That means that when you work at a Harris academy, you are playing a part in something very important – giving children the freedom and the opportunities to choose their own futures.

Harris is a Federation and not a chain; each Harris academy is different, reflecting the particular aspirations and leadership style of its Principal.

Informal conversations are welcomed and visits to our academies are highly encouraged. If you would like to discuss the post in confidence please call Sabeena Hasan, Primary Director, on 020 8253 7777. For further information, please contact harry.bond@harrisfederation.org.uk

Harris academies are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All offers of employment are subject to an Enhanced DBS check, and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check will be completed for all applicants. In line with our commitments to safeguarding, the Harris Federation uses preferred agencies and is unable to work with any agencies where Terms of Business have not been agreed by both parties prior to an engagement. Harris Federation is fully committed to equality and to valuing diversity as an employer and a provider of education. Click here to view our full equality and diversity statement.

The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit educational charity with almost 25 years of education experience in and around London. Our primary, secondary, all-through and sixth form academies have an international reputation for delivering a step change in education standards.

In joining a Harris Academy, you will be working with some of the country’s most exceptional teachers, support staff and leaders. There are frequent opportunities for internal exchange and promotion; our CPD is regularly described as Outstanding; and we have a package of staff benefits that rivals the most competitive of other professions.

Each Harris Academy is led and run by its senior leaders and has its own curriculum and way of doing things. What our Academies share, however, is a commitment to giving their children and teenagers an excellent education within a happy, caring and supportive environment.

There are Harris Academies in many different settings – inner city and suburban – but they are all within a maximum ninety minute commute from each other. This enables a highly collaborative structure, with on-call support from the Harris Federation.

You can find out more on our website (www.harrisfederation.org.uk) or by following us on Twitter (@HarrisFed).
