Job overview

Outwood Grange Academies Trust is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of Boys’ PE that loves changing the lives of young people through passionate teaching. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to putting Students First, by ensuring the highest standards of learning, achievement and development for all pupils, are met.

With a holistic view of education, we value vocational, practical, creative and academic talent and focus on building knowledge and transferable skills that result in real-world success. By inspiring students, we can create tomorrow’s leaders as well as responsible, caring and engaging citizens. We seek to instil British Values: a passion for democratic participation, individual liberty, mutual respect, and difference and diversity, backed by a commitment to taking responsibility for one’s own conduct and progress.

The successful candidate will be initially based at Outwood Academy Normanby for three days a week and Outwood Academy Bishopsgarth for two days a week during 2022/23. However, this role may require teaching at any of the academies within the North region in the future.

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools offers:

  • The opportunity to work and progress across the Family of Schools.
  • The chance to apply for leadership roles in the Deeps working across the whole Academy.
  • A full and detailed programme of support and development for new teachers.
  • A further comprehensive programme of professional development is provided through the Outwood Institute of Education (formerly the teaching school).

We have great training opportunities for teachers new to the academy including: open classroom events; weekly professional development time and further programmes free through the Outwood Institute of Education. We invest in you, so you invest in our students. We believe that all teaching and support staff posts within our Family of Schools are key posts in terms of supporting student success and achievement across a broad range of subjects and experiences. As such we are keen to recruit dedicated and ambitious professionals who will add value to our school community within and beyond the classroom.

Chief Executive Officer: Lee Wilson

Head of School: Jason Rhodes

We are an 11-16, Ofsted Good rated academy based in the market town of Stockton-on-Tees, in vibrant County Durham and have been a part of the Outwood family of schools since 2016.

We are proud that Outwood Academy Bishopsgarth is rated Good by Ofsted and are delighted that in its report, Ofsted noted ‘the school is being rapidly transformed through the highly effective actions of leaders and the trust’.

As part of this transformation, we aim to innovate with a knowledge-rich curriculum, designed to personalise learning for every student, helping them to reach their potential.

We serve the local community and aim to give its children an excellent start in life by giving them a first-class education. As a smaller school we know all our students, their strengths and how to get the very best out of them.

We have won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, in addition to being an IQM Centre of Excellence, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded Silver Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
