Job overview

Permanent Regional Teacher of English with Temporary Second in Department Responsibility at Outwood Grange Academy

Suitable for experienced teachers looking for a first promotion, or a current leader wishing to broaden experience in a large and successful department.

A very exciting opportunity has arisen, due to the secondment of the current postholder, for a suitable candidate to take on the role of Second in English at Outwood Grange Academy. This role will involve taking responsibility for a curriculum area and the successful candidate will also be expected to work closely with and, at times, deputise for the head of department, taking on a range of leadership duties. The postholder would be required to make a substantial contribution to year 11 teaching, and there may be the opportunity for some A-Level teaching, although experience of A-Level teaching is not essential.

Candidates will have a proven track record of teaching and results in GCSE English Language. This role is suitable for an internal candidate to undertake as a secondment from their current academy and in this case candidates are asked to obtain permission for a secondment from their principal prior to application.

For applicants outside of Outwood Grange Academies Trust, we can offer a permanent Regional Teacher of English with the temporary Second in English responsibility position until the return of the postholder. Please contact us to discuss if you are interested.

If you have any questions about this role, please contact Sue Thornton, Associate Director of English (s.thornton@outwood.com)

We are an Outstanding rated, 11-18 academy based in the cathedral city of Wakefield, near Leeds.

The Outwood Family was born out of our academy’s success and we are proud that after our last inspection, Ofsted paid tribute to the ‘academy staff and leaders for the way they ensure you get the best education possible.’

We have nurtured a school community that is welcoming and friendly, where students and staff can make excellent progress together, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased attainment, achievement and social and emotional development.

We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs. We are also proud to have been awarded Gold Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.
