Boothroyd House is a recently developed service, awaiting its first registration inspection visit. The Smith Foundation have spent a significant amount of time and resources creating the structure for an outstanding home for 4 children between the ages of 7-12 (on admission). It is anticipated that the home will work in partnership with the William Henry Smith School as it commissions places, and secures a holistic offer of excellence and high quality. The home already has the structures, systems and central services in place, which includes service level agreements with the school across areas of IT, Learning and Development, Admin, Occupational Health/School Nurse, HR and Finance, Health and Safety, and Maintenance. As well as leadership and safeguarding support, a consultant Psychologist is in place to support the Pillars of Parenting model of Care and Trauma and Attachment Responsive Practice.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated, experienced individual, who has the appropriate skills to lead our new children’s home and take on the role of Registered Manager. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a Registered Manager, having achieved Ofsted judgements of ‘good’ and / or ‘outstanding’.

Boothroyd House will provide care for up to 4 boys aged 7-12 (on admission) who may have a range of complex needs in addition to impaired social or cognitive functioning due to early life trauma and attachment difficulties. By working in partnership with the Deputy Registered Manager, Senior Residential Care Workers, Psychologist and other colleagues the Registered Manager will be responsible for creating and maintaining an environment where safe, consistent, creative, and enabling care for children (who can present with complex and challenging behaviours) is the standard. The Smith Foundation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Alongside our safeguarding stakeholders in the wider community, the RM role through collaborative partnerships, will be to help develop and safely lead the team within our Model of Care, promoting and facilitating positive outcomes.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of the needs of young people in care. They will have extensive knowledge and understanding of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Guide to the Quality Standards, Ofsted’s Social Care Common Inspection Framework (SCCIF) and other relevant statutory legislation, guidance and good practice. They will have experience in managing a team, and at the same time maintaining a safe, happy working environment for all. They will have excellent communication skills and be able to manage a range of professionals at all levels, as well as the empathy to address concerns from the young people and their key representatives or families. They will be a highly motivated and effective person who can work with confidential data; organise and prioritise their own workload, working autonomously when required, and be adaptable to work effectively as part of a team. Applicants should have a proven effective leadership style, excellent organisational and communication skills, discretion and a flexible approach.

 The successful candidate will have: 

•        Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Health & Social Care and Children and Young People’s Service or equivalent

•        Extensive background in working in Children’s Residential settings

•        3 years’ experience as a Registered Manager, having achieved Ofsted judgements of ‘good’ and / or ‘outstanding’

•        In depth knowledge of the Quality Standards and The Children’s Home Regulations 2015

•        A good understanding of Trauma and Attachment Responsive Practice

•        A desire to work within a Pillars of Parenting model of Care

•        Good financial management experience

•        Proven track record in supervising and managing people

•        Excellent communication, organisational and record keeping skills

•        Be able to demonstrate exceptional attention to detail

•        A good understanding of SEMH, including effective strategies to support challenging behaviour

•        Quality of Life underpins all work with children & young people/families and fellow colleagues

•        The ability to develop positive and sustainable relationships with children & young people

•        Be of a positive mind-set, highly motivated and able to contribute significantly to collaborative working

Please note that the post is Full-Time Permanent (to include weekends, evenings and sleep-ins, bank holidays plus on call duties). Candidates must be 22 years old or above to apply as per Children’s Home Regulations. Candidates must also have a valid driving licence.
