Job overview

 Background to the post

This exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team, as our Marketing Director becomes part time and will be working mainly remotely.  Our school continues to go from strength to strength, with most school years being oversubscribed due to demand for places. There are tremendous benefits to joining the independent school sector and St. Michael’s is one of Wales’ leading schools. In 2017, our pupils and staff secured the highest GCSE results in Wales and in 2018, we were placed 30th in the country by The Times for A-Level. This is down to our hard working staff who go above and beyond in everything that they do and our highly motivated pupils, whose conduct and enthusiasm supports them to achieve great things.

We are seeking to appoint a superb administrator with an eye for detail and the creation of systems/procedures, as well as a people-person who can effectively market our school to prospective parents, both local and overseas. You will join a strong marketing and student recruitment team with many years of experience between them.

You will be an energetic and self-motivated person with sound organisational and administrative skills. Somebody who thrives on making sure the admissions’ process is as effective as it can be, providing parents with an excellent first impression of the school in all their dealings with us.  You will wholeheartedly support our aims as an independent day and boarding school, where many parents make significant financial sacrifices to fund their children’s education. If you join us, you will benefit from professional development, a role with significant scope and autonomy, as well as the chance to be part of a friendly and encouraging staff team, in an optimistic and enjoyable working environment.

Application method: Fully completed online application form and supporting statement (one side of A4 or equivalent maximum). There is no need to provide a CV. The supporting statement should outline what you believe are the principles of sound administration, as well as what skills you will bring to the team.

Closing date for applications: Thursday 29th November 2018

Shortlisted candidates notified by: Friday 30th November 2018

Interviews and assessments to be held: Week commencing Monday 3rd December 2018

Located in Llanelli, South Wales, close to the coastline and not far from the Gower, St. Michael's School is situated in a picturesque area of natural beauty, with excellent links to the M4 motorway. We educate boys and girls from 3-18, broadly following the best of the National Curriculum, then GCSE & A-Level programmes. Although very academically successful, we also focus on young people's character development, resilience and confidence. Our university destinations are excellent and we enjoy the support of alumni who often return to share their experiences with existing pupils. We have just over 400 pupils in our community and are therefore small enough to know everyone individually, but also large enough to provide a wide range of opportunities.

St. Michael's is No. 1 school in Wales for GCSE results - 80% A* & A, summer 2017. We're also one of The Times' Top 20 UK Independent Schools (co-educational).  In 2019 we were awarded Welsh Independent Secondary of the Year (Sunday Times) and in 2021 we were awarded Welsh Independent Secondary of the Decade (Sunday Times).

With a dedicated and hardworking staff, St. Michael’s School is one of Wales’ leading Independent Schools.  Through high quality teaching, continuous assessment and regular examinations we are quickly able to identify pupils’ strengths. Small class sizes ensure that learning is tailored to the individual and that they are academically challenged throughout their school life.  We aim to create an environment where pupils feel cared for and respected. We nurture and support our children to develop confidence in their own abilities ensuring each child reaches their full potential.  We successfully combine traditional methods with a broad and well balanced curriculum, designed to enthuse and inspire our pupils, whilst aiming to challenge each child’s natural desire to learn.
