About the Role 
This newly created temporary position is initially for Terms 2, 3 and 4 of 2024.

The Religious Education Coordinator will largely focus on the curriculum and be responsible for assisting the leadership of Religious Education classes in Years 8 and 9. As such, the position will be based on the Padua Campus (Years 7, 8, and 9) and will provide support for the delivery of Religious Education in the Year 7 Integrated Humanities Program.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Stewardship and articulation of our Vision as a Catholic School and as St Mary MacKillop College.
  • Modelling quality Catholic School leadership in teaching/ learning and curriculum.
  • Ensuring that in the spirit of Mary MacKillop, an attitude of social justice principles is evident in our policy and curriculum documents.
  • Ensure that staff within the teaching and learning area promote the Church’s teaching in the course of their work.
  • Be a mentor for staff development and appraisal.
  • Work in close association with the Assistant Principal of Faith, Mission and Religious Education, Assistant Principal of Academic Care and Principal.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate curriculum.
  • Demonstrate curriculum leadership within the College by developing effective programs of study and ensuring that these are based on principles of inclusivity and equity.
  • Complement and support the Principal and College Executive in their leadership and management of the College.
  • Meet all administration requirements applicable to the particular area of responsibility, such as reporting and assessment procedures, excursion requirements, course registers, evaluations and outlines.
  • Ensure that facilities and equipment provided by the College are well-used, maintained and accounted for.

Essential Criteria 

  • Must hold a relevant Working with Children registration and Teaching Accreditation (WWVP and TQI).  
  • Must have commenced or completed relevant degree.
  • To teach Religious Education in a Catholic school (to be an Religious Education Teacher), an employee must:
    • Have completed 6 undergraduate subjects or 4 postgraduate subjects
    • Must be Catholic
    • Must have completed, be due to completed, or have a willingness to complete Accreditation D – Teach Religious Education in a Catholic school
  • Be an outstanding teacher of experience and initiative who can work effectively with the curriculum team, colleagues, students and families;
  • As a leader of experience and initiative work effectively with the Principal, Executive and Middle management teams to develop a vision for Inclusive Education;
  • Support the Principal and Executive to build community with staff, students and their families;
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, parents and community agencies;
  • Support the Assistant Principal Faith, Mission and Religious Education, Assistant Principal of Academic Care and Head of Campus in leading Religious Education.

  • You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident to be eligible to apply for this position.
