Job overview

Term Time Only

We are looking to appoint a versatile Resident Boarding Assistant to join our boarding team. The Boarding Assistant role is one of the most diverse and rewarding positions in the boarding house. Working within a team of two resident staff and three non-resident staff, you will be responsible for the pastoral, social and medical care of the boarders in the house, and involved with the planning and administration of day to day life.

The working hours will average 40 per week, plus one evening duty. Salary for the role is £17,000 per annum and accommodation for a single person is provided.

The role would suit someone with a caring and supportive nature, a ‘can-do’ attitude and a good understanding of the challenges faced by teenagers living away from home. Previous experience of boarding is not required, but the ability to quickly adapt to the environment will be essential. The role is equally suited to a graduate interested in developing a career in pastoral care, a more experienced boarding practitioner, or someone looking for a change in career.

Closing date is noon on Friday 13 April 2018.

About City of London Freemen's School

City of London Freemen’s School is a mixed, selective, non-denominational all-through school with sixth form situated in Ashtead, Surrey. It is an independent boarding school owned by the City of London Corporation, which provides 16 of its 22 governors. The school will provide 920 places for primary, secondary and sixth-form students aged 7-18, when fully subscribed.

City of London Freemen’s was founded in 1854 in Brixton, where it educated both boys and girls. It moved to its current Surrey location in 1926, expanding in size to accommodate increasing numbers of students.

"Our mission is to learn, lead and make a difference. We live and breathe that ethos every day here at Freemen’s: staff and students. Academic excellence is a given, that’s the foundation of any good school and we are very firmly rooted in a tradition of achievement. However, good grades and progression to top universities only make up part of the picture here in Ashtead Park. We want to develop balanced, compassionate, rounded and unpretentious young people, who will go out into the wider world and leave a lasting impact: young people who can and will make a difference throughout their lives."

Headmaster, Roland Martin
