Bosworth Independent College is a relatively small college of approximately 300 students. OVERVIEW OF THE JOB

You will be a supervising adult presence in the Boarding House that is committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of our boarding students and assist them in their daily lives, working hours on a two week shift pattern. Weekday hours when on duty are evenings and mornings, and each two week shift contains a weekend on duty.


ACCOMMODATION

When on shift you will live in the accommodation provided for the better performance of your duties.


REPORTS TO

You will be directly responsible to the Head of Boarding. You will work within the framework set by and under the general direction of the Principal.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB


As a member of the Boarding team, you should carry out your role to support the needs of the students you work with and the College in general.

▪ Wake every student in the morning for breakfast and morning registration and inspect student bedrooms, filling in appropriate paperwork

▪ Monitor the students’ welfare and behaviour and report any problems in the residence to the Head of Welfare & Boarding 

▪ Supervise students’ Prep hour when required

▪ Report student illness promptly to the Health centre in the mornings. If emergency attention is required, to use the emergency number or call an Ambulance

▪ Ensure the smooth running of the boarding house generally in accordance to the student handbook to maintain a friendly, welcoming and happy environment

▪ At weekends, to help the domestic team with maintaining general cleanliness and tidiness in the boarding house

▪ Reporting any maintenance issues through the college system

▪ Assist with laundry requirements of the students

▪ Issue keys/cards as residence requires

▪ To ensure a visible presence in and around the premises of the boarding house at all times when on duty

▪ To ensure the building is consistently secure, operate the alarm system following nightly curfews and during closedown, and to complete Boarding House Checks including the security of doors and windows upon closing the building daily.

▪ Ensure curfew times are kept; filling in associated paperwork as requested and reporting issues of lateness

▪ Help with student arrivals, student induction and departures when required

▪ Attend termly induction and regular staff meetings

▪ Plan, lead and deliver regular meetings with the students

▪ Maintain House noticeboards with up to date information, attractive and organised

▪ Record daily handovers for your colleagues following your shift

▪ Ensure the familiar use of the college’s database system to regularly record student notes such as welfare, pastoral, accommodation, exeat and other vital information. 

▪ To participate in activities in the boarding house when required

▪ To take part in such performance management or staff appraisal arrangements made by the College and your line manager. This includes Probationary reviews, regular supervisions and appraisal meetings.

▪ To be familiar with and work in accordance with the policies, procedures and guidelines relating to the college and residential facilities.

▪ Liaise with Heads of Department as requested.

▪ During the period of Summer School, to undertake supervision of activities and assist with trips as directed by the Boarding Duty Manager.

▪ Continue personal development as agreed

▪ Engage actively in the performance review process

▪ Comply with any reasonable request from the Principal or Head of Boarding to undertake work not specified in this job description

▪ To be courteous to colleagues and parents and to provide a welcoming environment for all visitors to the College

▪ The job requires that you have:

▪ Ability to work with, care for and supervise young people

▪ High levels of energy, an even temper and a sense of humour

▪ Confidence in spoken and written English

▪ Confidence to take a lead on minor disciplinary matters within the Boarding houses

▪ Ability to relate to young people

▪ Ability and willingness to work in a multi-cultural environment

▪ Willingness to work unsociable hours 

▪ Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

▪ Ability to work as a team member and lead by example

▪ Ability to be proactive, flexible and reliable

Bosworth Independent School has a range of different subjects on the curriculum. This includes crafts, go karting, English and tennis. The school hopes to give the best education to all the students. Teachers give care and support to every pupil when they need it the most, throughout their time at the school.
