Job overview

The Bedstone College community has the privilege of being based in the most stunning rural setting in an area of outstanding beauty. Our boarders, from the UK and overseas, are housed in three boarding houses and we are looking for Residential Houseparent(s) to lead Wilson, our Senior Girls’ boarding house. The position would suit an energetic couple or individual. There is a mixture of full, weekly and flexi-boarding pupils, and the houseparents are responsible for the outstanding pastoral care of all connected with the House.

At Bedstone, we nurture a family atmosphere, and you will lead, with support from the Head of Boarding, the day-to-day running of all aspects of house life, whilst setting and reinforcing a positive culture and ethos. You will be a key member of our innovative and supportive boarding team with high expectations of behaviour and courtesy, ready to play a full role in the development of boarders and school improvement. You will understand the ever-changing challenges facing adolescents and it is your care for their pastoral and academic lives that is vital in supporting their success.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a busy day and boarding school, where you will be fully involved with co-curricular activities and the wider life of the school. Energy, a positive outlook and a flexible approach to working hours are essential. This is a fully residential position, with a spacious apartment attached to the boarding house. This position could be combined with a teaching position; all subjects offered at the College will be considered.

Bedstone has its own salary scale and the salary will be set according to qualifications and experience. There are also fee concessions with respect to staff children being educated at the College.

An application form and job description can be obtained from Ms Christine Preston, PA to the Head, (pa@bedstone.org) to whom completed applications should be returned by Monday 13th February. They are also available in the Academic Vacancies section of our website Vacancies: Academic - Bedstone College. Please include a letter of application of no more than 2 sides of A4. Should you wish to discuss the role in strict confidence, please feel free to contact James Gray, Head of Boarding, at james.gray@bedstone.org

Vision and values

The school’s main aim is to build each student’s confidence so they can achieve their full potential. Teachers strive to do this by encouraging pupils to try new things, be respectful of others and have pride in themselves and their school community. The school wants its young people to be curious, robust, adaptable and tolerant.

Bedstone College offers a broad range of subjects as well as extra-curricular activities to produce well-rounded students. Core subjects such as science, English, maths, geography and foreign languages are emphasised in the curriculum. The school excels with its recreational activities. These include mountain biking, horseback riding, ice skating and rock climbing, on campus and further afield. There are bi-annual ski trips as well as other overseas visits for different subjects. All students contribute to a very active charity committee.

ISI report
