Job overview

As a Residential Support Worker, you’ll have a challenging but fulfilling job. Working with vulnerable young people in our residential school, you’ll provide them with personalised care and create a calm, safe living environment. That involves planning social and leisure activities, giving counselling and escorting children on activities, but most importantly creating a home during terms time!

Experience isn’t essential, but you must have the ability to build a rapport with young people. In many cases, our residents’ behaviour can be difficult or challenging. That means you’ve got to be very patient, calm and resilient. You should also be ready to study for a Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) (if you don’t have this or an equivalent already). In the meantime, we’ll give you outstanding training to help you do your best. In return you’ll need to be happy to work flexible hours, including some sleep-in duties and to have a full UK driving licence.

Like all Witherslack Group schools, Cedar House School has state-of-the-art learning resources, is well equipped and offers an inspiring working environment. The school is a co-educational, independent, specialist day and residential school on the North Yorkshire, Lancashire border providing high quality education and care for children between the ages of 7 and 18. The school meets the needs of a diverse group of pupils exhibiting social, emotional and mental health needs, alongside a range of other associated conditions.

For children and young people with complex, challenging needs, the level of care and education must go above and beyond. That’s what drives us, here at Witherslack Group. With our high staff-to-child ratio and in-house clinical teams, our children’s homes have a reputation for excellence. Through our inspirational homes, schools and ethos, we’ve achieved the highest possible outcomes. In short, we’re enhancing life opportunities.
