Napier Boys’ High School in the Hawkes Bay (one of the sunniest regions in New Zealand!) are looking for an exceptional resistant materials teacher with particular strengths in metal to join their innovative technology department.

Napier Boys’ High School has a role of about 1200 students and is one of New Zealand’s leading secondary schools committed to fostering student development from enthusiastic boys to courteous, polite and intelligent young men. You will enjoy working in a technology team of both well-seasoned and relatively new teachers dedicated to providing the best in education for their students. The department comprises of 5 staff, which specialise in wood, metal, and combined materials and is superbly established with lathes, cutters, welding equipment and other specialist tools. A new CNC Milling Machine and CNC Router have been approved for 2018 and a new laser cutter is coming soon! The school strongly emphasises a wide range of curriculum pathways for tertiary, trade and vocational career paths that cater to all needs.

Many students gain apprenticeships straight from school and there is a strong emphasis on translating the workshops into a real-world setting where students can develop practical skills which will benefit them throughout their career.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • have a PGCE in Design Technology (or similar)
  • you will have proven experience in teaching Resistant Materials (metal) to senior level;
  • you may have experience in teaching Engineering as a subject to A-level/BTec
  • demonstrate innovative practice in this curriculum area;
  • be proficient and experienced in using the appropriate technology equipment in a safe and supporting classroom environment;
  • ability to integrate in the wider community and develop positive student relationships.
