Job overview

Clarendon Academy is seeking to appoint two caring and dedicated Teaching Assistants to work within the new Resource Base (opening September 2023), supporting students with complex Cognition and Learning needs. This is a wonderful opportunity to work alongside our dedicated staff and join our growing team which offers a supportive environment for staff to grow and develop their career.

Working hours: 30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time)

Clarendon Academy is an exciting place to work. We are a thriving co-educational 11-18 comprehensive academy within the Acorn Education Trust. Working within the Trust provides support and career opportunities for progression. The school is based in the county town of Trowbridge, in beautiful rural Wiltshire, and is in easy commuter distance from Bath. We pride ourselves on being a centre of excellence and a place where young, enthusiastic children enter in Year 7 and leave us at the end of Year 13 as fully rounded young adults.

The Resource Base is a new venture for us, which we are so excited about. We are working with Wiltshire Council to offer places for young people who do not require specialist school, but who need a little more support than mainstream. The Resource Base will be a smaller learning environment where our students can flourish whilst also benefitting from inclusion to everything that Clarendon Academy has to offer. Our designation is for students who have complex cognition and learning needs and sometimes with associated language disorder. The successful candidates will be very much a part of the base’s development as we move forward and grow the number of places.

We would like to hear from you if you:

  • Have at least grade C in GCSE English and maths or equivalent;
  • Have a passion for supporting children with learning differences and their all-round development;
  • Are confident, resilient and have excellent communication skills;
  • Are good at building trusting relationships and are a team player;
  • Are organised, creative and enthusiastic;
  • Have experience of working with children in a primary, secondary or special school environment; (desirable but not essential).

Clarendon Academy is a thriving co-educational, non-denominational secondary school and sixth form, educating young people between the ages of 11 and 18 years.

Located in the bustling town of Trowbridge, Wiltshire, our school has a strong reputation in the local community, and beyond, for being a school with high standards of teaching and learning.

We pride ourselves on being a centre of excellence and a place where young, enthusiastic children enter in Year 7 and leave us at the end of Year13 as fully rounded young adults. Our staff aim for every lesson, every day, to be exceptional. To support this, we ensure that all staff receive regular training so they can continue to develop their craft. Our curriculum is enhanced by the strong pastoral support offered by all staff. We care deeply about our students and work tirelessly to ensure they feel that they belong and can achieve their dreams.

In June 2023 we retained our ‘Good’ Ofsted rating and were praised for our high-quality, well sequenced curriculum and for our staff, who not only have good subject knowledge but also know our pupils exceptionally well.

In 2018 we joined Acorn Education Trust, which has provided exciting opportunities to improve local education and draw on collective experience. We work closely with other schools within the Trust and the central team to help us continue to grow from strength to strength.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school.
