We seek a skilled and experienced Lead Counsellor who is passionate about making a positive difference to young people’s lives. The role is flexible and would suit someone looking for a part-time or full-time role. At a minimum, you will lead the counselling service for St Birinus Boys’ School and the mixed Didcot Sixth Form in Ridgeway Education Trust. For interested candidates, there is the possibility of a full-time role, which would also include leading the counselling service at Didcot Girls’ School.

The team comprises full-time and part-time School Counsellors, as well as a developed and ambitious trainee counsellor programme. Based at St Birinus School, you will be joining a values-driven, inclusive and high performing Trust with a team of staff committed to providing the best possible care and supporting the best possible outcomes for young people. The Trust has expanded and invested in its counselling service over the last two years and is looking for a Lead Counsellor to continue this development.

Didcot Girls’ School is an outstanding school, as confirmed by Ofsted (November 2022). The school is a vibrant and happy place where students are offered superb opportunities to develop in an environment that fosters resilience, leadership skills and a commitment to the highest educational standards. St Birinus School was judged to be a good school, once more, by Ofsted (February 2020) and is on its way to outstanding. The school has a strong sense of identity and a tangibly vibrant ethos. The mixed sixth form of nearly 400 students is based at St Birinus School and builds on the values and ethos of both schools.

To apply, please complete the school application form available on the Ridgeway Education Trust website, under the ‘Join Us’ tab at https://www.ridgewayeducationtrust.co.uk/

Completed applications should be sent to the Trust administrator, Fionna Blessing, by 9am on Friday 3rd February at fblessing@ridgewayeducation.com.

Should you wish to visit the schools prior to application, or if you would like to discuss the scope of the role or the working days, then please contact Fionna Blessing.

Ridgeway Education Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Ridgeway Education Trust (RET) is a multi-academy trust which comprises Didcot Girls’ School, St Birinus School and Sutton Courtenay Church of England Primary School. The two secondary schools also include Didcot Sixth Form, a mixed sixth form of some 350 boys and girls.

Didcot Girls’ School is an outstanding school, as confirmed by Ofsted (November 2015). The school has a commitment to the very highest standards and is an exciting and happy school where real attention is given to professional development and staff wellbeing. St Birinus School was judged to be a good school, once more, by Ofsted (February 2020) and is on its way to outstanding. The school has a strong sense of identity and a tangibly vibrant ethos. Sutton Courtenay CofE Primary School joined RET in April 2019, creating the opportunity to build an exceptional, coherent education provision from nursery up to, and including, sixth form.

Both secondary schools are unique as the only single sex state schools in Oxfordshire and all three schools share the same strong values of high quality teaching and learning and respectful relationships within an inclusive learning community. We are ambitious for all our children and young people, for ourselves and our community.

The RET Charter describes our vision for Ridgeway Education Trust and our commitment to the development and wellbeing of our staff team is illustrated in the RET Staff Charter. Further information about our Trust can be found on our website.
