Job overview

Room Leader Early Years (PVI nursery)

Salary £26,000 pa

Wood St Nursery is a delightful 50 place children's nursery in Walthamstow's trendy Wood St area! We are looking for an experienced Early Years Practitioner and Room Leader to lead our 3 to 5 year old room.  We would like someone who just loves to spend time with children and believes that children learn best through self-directed play. Someone who has a strong knowledge of how to support children’s learning and promote positive behaviour, and is able to model good practice for others. And someone who wants to help children explore interesting environments and facilitate their wildest ideas!

Here at Wood St Nursery, we are tired of plastic toys, age inappropriate carpet sessions, and dreary routines. Our nursery is beautiful and well-resourced, full of real and natural objects to promote open-ended play. We teach our children to be independent and autonomous, to look after themselves and their nursery, and we work in partnership with them to help them develop and learn.

The role of Room Leader is to deliver high quality early years care and education for our 24 pre-school children, and manage a team of 7 Early Years Practitioners, Nursery Assistants and Apprentices. You will ensure the smooth running of the day, oversee the observations and assessments of all the children in the room, key work for a group of children, and ensure the best possible outcome for each child in the room. We operate with a well-qualified staff team and generous staffing ratios. We follow In The Moment Planning and minimise paper work to maximise time spent with children.  We also have a weekly Forest School provision that we are looking to expand.

You will need:

• a teaching qualification with experience of teaching in Early Years, or Early Years Teacher qualification, or a NVQ Level 3 in Early Years Care and Education

• a child centred ethos

• a very strong understanding of the revised EYFS, safeguarding and child development

minimum 1 year experience as a nursery Room Leader, or 2 years teaching in nursery

• the confidence and empathy to lead other practitioners, challenging and developing their practice

If you come and work with us we will encourage your creativity, passion and professional development. We are a new nursery that has rapidly gained an excellent reputation, and as we grow there will be opportunities for you to progress your career. We know that staff are the most important asset a nursery has, and believe in looking after our staff, providing support, and promoting a friendly and happy staff team. You can have a free lunch daily and join our weekly Pilates session. If you would like to come and have a look at our nursery and have a chat with us before applying, please email Beth at managers@woodstnursery.co.uk or ring on 07721 008995.

  • Salary £26,000 pa
  • Full time 40 hrs per week, 5 weeks holiday + bank holidays, pension scheme
  • 32 hours pw and compressed hours considered, pro rata. However candidates must be prepared to work until 5.15pm so that they will have daily contact with parents.
  • Closing date: Wednesday 13th July 2022, interview day/times negotiable
  • Start date: Ideally September 2022, negotiable

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo checks with the Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS), provide a full work history and references which will be checked.
