Nelson and Colne College Group is made up of a family of colleges – Nelson & Colne College, Lancashire Adult Learning and Accrington & Rossendale College. Together the Group forms a Sixth Form, Skills and Technology Centre, University Centre, employer training and adult learning provider delivering exceptional teaching and learning to all ages and at all levels. 



The Exciting Role 

A new and exciting opportunity has become available for a Safeguarding Coordinator.  We are looking for an experienced and professional individual to join our Safeguarding & Welfare team working 37 hours per week Monday - Friday.  



The successful candidate will be primarily based at Nelson and Colne College but may be required to travel across sites.



What You Will Be Doing:


• Co-ordinate safeguarding and welfare referrals to assess need, ensure appropriate and timely interventions are in place to meet the need of vulnerable and at risk students, including own case load

• Act as a named point of contact for internal staff and external agencies in order to establish and maintain effective partnerships and facilitate timely safeguarding referrals, interventions and plans of support – assuming the role of Deputy DSL as required

• Attend internal and external meetings in order to advocate for students and support colleagues and partners to develop successful outcomes for students, arranging and chairing meetings as required

• Capture and utilise safeguarding data to monitor and report on safeguarding issues in order to inform service delivery and improvement, contributing to the development of reports as required. 




What We Are Looking For:


• DSL training to Level 4/5

• Experience of providing information, advice and guidance to young people

• Working knowledge of Safeguarding Child Protection policies, procedures and issues.

• Possess excellent communication skills, having the ability to relate to and empathise with a broad range of students of different ages, from different backgrounds and cultures.

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
