Safeguarding Coordinator

We welcome applications for this support post to commence as soon as possible.

The main duties and responsibilities of this role include:

  • To undertake all aspects of administration in relation to the safeguarding of students, including but not limited to, the transfer of safeguarding files from High Schools, adding relevant information to CEDAR and liaising with external stakeholders to access relevant information as necessary

  • To act as a first response for safeguarding incidents as well as dealing with students, staff and parents who need to speak with the Pastoral Care Team, referring such incidents and issues on to the team promptly and as necessary

  • To provide initial, low-level pastoral support and reassurance to students as part of a triage approach, gathering information and ensuring concerns are escalated promptly to senior members of the Safeguarding Team as appropriate.

  • To support safeguarding responses by locating and accompanying students on site at the request of senior members of the Safeguarding Team.

  • To act as a first point of contact for phone calls related to safeguarding from reception

The Successful Candidate

Cardinal Newman College is a wonderful place to work, and this is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced candidate to join our friendly and well established Safeguarding & Pastoral team.

The Safeguarding & Pastoral team is seeking an individual with GCSEs at Grade A*–C (9–4), or equivalent, in Mathematics and English Language. The successful candidate will have the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with external agencies, parents, and students, and will demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and a strong dedication to the role.

You should display the values, attitudes, and behaviours consistent with the Catholic Ethos of the College and have a commitment to equality/diversity and the safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults.

Terms and Conditions

Hours: 22.2 hours per week, term time only. The role will be worked over three days per week, one of which must be Friday. The remaining two days will be agreed upon appointment.

Salary: The post will be paid at pro rata to £25,949 per annum. Actual Salary £13,614.51 per annum.

An Outstanding College

Cardinal Newman is the highest performing sixth form college in the North West and frequently place as one of the highest nationally for student achievement and Value Added with our latest Ofsted Inspection in February 2023 grading all areas of the College as ‘Outstanding’. The report confirmed that students have highly positive attitudes to learning. Attendance is very high and students are committed to their studies and are highly motivated to achieve with the College having high expectations where students are at the heart of the curriculum.

Inspectors also commented that leaders are highly considerate of staff well-being, workload and that staff morale is exceptionally high. Staff feel the College is well led and managed and that they are trusted and valued by leaders. They describe a strong ethos and culture to support students to achieve their aspirations, illustrating that the Catholic mission and ethos of the College is lived out at all levels.

Every year students progress onto a wide variety of destinations after their studies at Newman with the vast majority of Newman students, progressing to Higher Education with over 30% of those taking up places at Russell Group Universities.
