Job Summary

Gordonstoun operates a RYA recognised Sailing Centre from our sailing base at Hopeman Harbour, where we provide a range of sailing and power boating activities for our students from years 4 to 13.With a wide range of skill levels, our students will require coaching from beginner to advanced level using the RYA Dinghy Scheme as a framework for the sailing programme.

Main Purpose of the Job


The Post Holder would act as RYA Chief Instructor at our sailing base in Hopeman and facilitate the delivery of our small boat sailing programme.  Sailing activities are usually timetabled outside of the academic day (usually afternoons and weekends) leaving time in the working day for boat maintenance and other tasks and there is an expectation that the post holder will also be involved in an area of the school beyond their sailing instructing duties.

In addition, candidates would be expected to contribute to the wider life of the school in other ways, in either a teaching or nonteaching capacity. The ability to teach, coach sports, contribute to the activity programme, or have Outdoor Education qualifications such as Mountain Leader would be desirable.

About Gordonstoun

The School
Gordonstoun is known for the wide range of activities that it provides for girls and boys throughout the School's 6-18 age range. Location
Gordonstoun stands in 200 acres of woodland, within walking distance of sandstone cliffs and sandy beaches on the beautiful coast of the Moray Firth in Scotland. Six miles away is the historic city of Elgin. Lossiemouth nearby is well known for its picturesque harbour, fine golf courses and Royal Air Force Station. The City of Aberdeen is about 90 minutes drive away, while an hour's drive takes you to the ski resort of Aviemore at the foot of the Cairngorm Mountains. Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is forty miles away and is itself only about an hour away from London (Gatwick) by air.
