Job overview

Due to internal promotion, we are looking to recruit an Admin Manager to not only manage, but lead the administrative function of the school.  In this individual we are looking for drive and determination, a proactive self-starter who is enthusiastic and thrives in a busy office environment.

The Admin Manager is line manager to the Business Support Team and is the main administrative contact for the Senior Leadership Team.   This is a varied role - experience of SIMS or similar MIS system would be beneficial however training will be provided.  The successful candidate will manage the admissions process, student leavers and transfers.  A key part of the role will be liaising with parents, other schools, agencies and the Local Authority – therefore strong interpersonal skills are a must.   An excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office is highly desirable.

With a range of tasks to complete including, events coordination, website management and development and management of student data, producing reports from a variety of sources, creation of documentation and giving advice and support to the wider school.

This role is challenging and will give the right person a chance to make it their own building on current processes and procedures, to manage and lead a team and to be a key part of a busy Secondary School.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working with young people, who believes it is a privilege to be a part of their journey into adulthood, and who understands the challenges faced by young people growing up in today's world.  Support staff are also part of our student coaching programme, being responsible for a small group of students they can build relationships with and be the point of contact throughout the students’ time in school.

When joining Spen Valley you are entering a supportive environment where we pride ourselves in how we develop our staff and encourage them to grow, offering a wide range of CPD opportunities - including a bespoke CPD package through the National College. Being a member of Red Kite Alliance, we receive support, advice and training from some of the most successful schools in Yorkshire.

Staff Benefits include:

• Employee Healthcare (including physiotherapy referrals, counselling and lifestyle advice)

• Pension (West Yorkshire Pension Fund)

• Cycle to Work Scheme

• Staff Counselling (a personal & confidential counselling & support service)

• Varied Staff wellbeing Initiatives

How to apply
When applying for a post in our school we ask that you do not provide a generic letter. We are looking for candidates who have a genuine passion for working in our school, therefore we strongly advise you to look at our website.

Please note that the successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS Check and will be required to complete all training in compliance with Kirklees Safeguarding requirements.

Closing date for this role is 12 noon, Friday 12th August 2022.

Our school:

We are an oversubscribed, 11-16 comprehensive school situated in North Kirklees, West Yorkshire. Having been awarded ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted in March 2022, this is a key time for Spen Valley High School as we build upon our many strengths and continue to develop a truly coherent and high-quality provision for our students. In this role you will work alongside a team of highly professional & dedicated staff, who are welcoming, courageous, open-minded, and supportive.

We are privileged to have been part of the Alex Timpson Programme, and our commitment to becoming a Trauma Informed School was nationally recognised in November 2021, when we were awarded the Attachment Research Community (Secondary) Award.

What makes Spen Valley High School different?

We are proud to be a Trauma Informed School and are looking for someone who fully supports our vision and approach. We know that all young people have been disadvantaged by the Covid pandemic but alongside this, we have a significant number of students in our school with complex backgrounds. These young people not only require, but deserve courageous and resilient teachers who can balance the teaching of their subject to a high standard, with helping their students to navigate their way through the challenges they face. We make no excuses about our approach; but this is not about ‘dumbing down’, far from it, we want colleagues with high expectations but who can manage students through outstanding teaching and developing strong relationships. We require someone with good emotional intelligence and who will show warmth, compassion and empathy to all our students.

We pride ourselves on being ethical leaders, and leading with integrity. When joining Spen Valley you are entering an environment that balances professional challenge with support and kindness. We expect our colleagues to work hard, and go the ‘extra mile’ for our students, but in doing so we recognise that additional support is sometimes necessary and our Trauma Informed and relational approach extends to the way we work with our staff. We offer a wide range of CPD opportunities, including a bespoke CPD package that genuinely meets the needs of each colleague. As a member of the Red Kite Teaching Alliance, we receive high-quality support, advice and training and work closely with colleagues from some of the most successful schools in Yorkshire. We encourage our staff not only in their involvement in various activities throughout the school, but also to be proactive and develop new and fresh ideas to engage and enthuse both our staff and students.
