St Michael’s Primary School is a rural, co-educational, K-6 primary parish school and is part of the Catholic education system of the Wagga Wagga Diocese. The school commenced operating in 1886 under the direction of the Sisters of St Joseph, with the current school location coming into use in 1936. St Michael’s is located in the town of Coolamon in the Riverina region of south-western New South Wales. The school’s current student population stands at over 100. Teachers with a commitment to a philosophy of contemporary learning in which inquiry learning is fostered are seen as genuine assets to the school community.

Principal

Mr Brendan Flanagan

Facilities

In recent years the school has undergone some major changes in respect to its facilities profile, with all classrooms being refurbished and a new library and multi-purpose hall being built. There has also been the construction of a large outdoor covered teaching area that provided a multi-purpose sports court. These facilities add to the former facilities, such as sports courts for basketball, tennis, volleyball and netball. Classrooms feature the most current technology resources and major grants from government sources have seen the school’s environmental footprint enhanced by the installation of solar panels and water tanks.

Curriculum

St Michael’s follows the NSW Education Standards Authority Syllabuses for each of the key learning area subjects and a Religious Education program provided by the Catholic schools office in Wagga Wagga. The school embraces a philosophy of contemporary learning in which ‘Inquiry Learning’ is fostered and where students and teachers are encouraged to work collaboratively and flexibly.

School ethos

St Michael’s Primary School seeks to provide for the academic and spiritual growth of its students and develop in them, the guiding principles of what they wish for them to become; spiritual, inquisitive, reflective, collaborative, knowledgeable, caring, and healthy global citizens.
