Position Description:

The school-counselling program at TGS is designed to help students, parents, and teachers develop positive learning experiences. The employee provides counselling support for students with specific social and/or emotional concerns, and aims for all students to experience a positive and fruitful learning environment. The School Counsellor achieves this by working with students, both in and out of the classroom, on topics such as friendship, solving conflict and stress management. Small groups and short-term individual counselling provide a forum for students with greater need of individual intervention. By addressing social and emotional barriers to learning, the School and College Counsellor helps TGS students acquire important coping skills to succeed academically and become integral members of the school community.

In light of the current COVID restrictions on travel and movement, TGS also requires applicants to be competent with distance and online strategies, applicants must demonstrate competence with virtual tools which aid online learning, and be flexible in their counselling practices to pivot to new and emerging technologies.

The TGS program while traveling, is 6 weeks in-country with a 4 week break in-between each term where you would fly back to your home country. The counsellor position is expected to be available during the break periods as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet with students for counselling sessions and take notes.
  • Attend professional conferences, orientations, in-service training, and staff meetings as required.
  • Confer with parents or guardians, other teachers, counsellors, and administrators as required.
  • Enforce and follow all administrative policies and rules governing students enrolled in the TGS Program.
  • Be digitally literate and publish academic-related materials and share with students and teachers throughout the world.
  • Engage students enrolled in the TGS Program in and supervise a wide range of co-curricular activities.
  • Supervise, travel and live internationally with the TGS Students, including planning international outings, food shopping, taking turns in preparing meals.
  • Work collaboratively and professionally with other TGS personnel to effectuate excellence and integrity in the TGS Program.
  • Follow all safety protocols and security procedures.
  • Serve as a representative of TGS at all times associated with TGS’s program, including when traveling to and from TGS’s destinations. In connection therewith, wearing TGS apparel or other requested/required TGS identification.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures applicable to the TGS Faculty as they may be implemented or amended from time to time.
  • Promote the TGS Program through various means in accordance with and pursuant to the policies and procedures applicable to the TGS Faculty as they may be implemented or amended from time to time (e.g. speaking engagements, blogging regarding TGS Program activities).
  • Aide in the execution and marketing of the college counselling program.
  • Meet regularly with university admissions officers globally to pave the way for TGS graduates.
  • Oversee college entrance exam prep and university applications.
  • Work with marketing team to assist in the development to better inform university admission officers about TGS.
  • Other administrative duties as required.

TGS Student Responsibilities of Employee

  • Responsible for the direct supervision of the students assigned.
  • Travel and live internationally with the TGS students enrolled in the program during the Employment Term and when the program is in session.
  • Subject to a rotating duty schedule on evenings, weekends and school holidays as implemented by TGS and/or the principal.

Requirements

  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in an educational setting.
  • Strong Familiarity with the college admissions process, gap year programs and/or programs beyond high school.
  • Proper educational licensing credentials within the home country to teach at the secondary and/or college levels as a School Guidance Counsellor.
