An exciting opportunity to join our wonderful school community.  We are a school for children with Autism that has 96 pupils and over 120 staff based in Maidenhead. 

We have recently moved to a brand new purpose-built building and it is now time to recruit a Bursar with the prime responsibility for finance.


Main Purpose of Job:

Reporting to, and subject to the direction of, the Headteacher and Trustees/Governors; this role manages and performs functions related to the financial resource management, including being our Single Academy Trust’s named Chief Financial Officer. The Bursar role is primarily a hands-on finance role but will also lead on the financial management of the Trust. Advising the Headteacher and Governors on the financial management of the Trust. The Bursar will ensure sound and appropriate financial governance and financial risk management in line with the Academies Handbook, the ESFA guidelines, and with all statutory requirements.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the Financial Resource Management


• Responsible for pay matters relating to staff (120+ staff)


• Line management of Finance Assistant


• To provide monthly management accounts to the Leadership team and Governors


• Liaising with a number of Local Authorities regarding top-up fees 


• Act as the Chief Financial Officer 


• Ensure school policies related to finance are regularly updated and fit for purpose.


• Play a key role in financial due diligence for the school.


• To provide advice and guidance on pay-related queries for all staff, including maternity/paternity leave entitlement, etc. And ensure school staff are issued relevant notification of pay (eg payslips, annual salary statements


• To implement changes to pay from statutory, national or local pay agreements


• To lead in setting and forward planning the School’s budget by ensuring accurate information relating to staffing and all other areas of expenditure
