Solihull Academy Trust is an alternative provision where we provide innovative solutions for a number of students for whom mainstream education is simply not working (for a range of reasons). In our short lifetime thus far we have grown considerably and continue to expand as our provision evolves. We now consist of our main site: provision for year 9-11, The Mercury Centre, The Saturn Centre and The Pathfinder Centre (Year 7-8), and we welcomed Daylesford Academy to the Trust in September 2022..
We are looking for a School Bus Guide to escort pupils with learning and behavioural difficulties on a commissioned public bus to and from school. If you can spare a few hours in the morning and afternoon, term time only, you’ll give a child the chance to make the most of their day.
You will need a patient, caring and understanding approach to children. Your own transport may be needed to travel to the starting bus stops, but no driving of buses is required.
You will be expected to travel to the start of the bus route in Chelmsley Wood to pick up the commissioned bus service, and then travel through the bus route to pick up pupils at allocated bus stops en-route to school. You will then be dropped back to the starting point at Chelmsley Wood after you complete the morning shift. In the afternoon you will then be expected to travel to the starting point again to complete the afternoon shift to return pupils home from school. You will then be dropped back to the starting point after completing the afternoon shift.
If you are a team player who is interested in working with and being the difference for young people, please refer to our school website www.sa.solihull.sch.uk. "Open a school", they said...so we did...
"It’ll be great", they said...And it was, but also the toughest thing professionally any of us have done.
"So many pupils need something different", they said... and they were correct... our students did and do need something different.
Since April 18 we have been on a journey to use the idea of “Alternative” in Alternative Provision as a driver to create a new school for the most vulnerable pupils in the local authority, and the impact and results tell us we are making a real difference. Prior to our opening our local authority permanently excluded more secondary students than 90% of the rest of the country despite being the wealthiest borough in the West Midlands. So, in a unique partnership between the Local Authority, mainstream school and ourselves, we built a school, provision and curriculum to combat that and ensure the best possible outcomes for highest tariff students in the local authority. We have developed our school based on 4 specific targets:
-Prevent PEX
-Fewer FTE
-Beat Baseline and/or KS2 targets
-No NEETS
Every decision we make and every action we take is based on these four targets and absolutely child-focused and, from that simple premise, we have created our Academy. If you are looking for a new challenge and have unconditional positive regard, emotional resilience and utter belief that every child deserves a better future, then maybe we and, more importantly, our students need you as part of TeamSA.
