We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated professional to cover the School Business Manager role and to help deliver on the strategic financial management and business development of this beautiful Hampshire school.  The successful applicant will join our team of talented, committed and diligent staff, all of whom are aligned in their passion for ensuring that our pupils receive a high quality education and leave us as well qualified and well-rounded young adults.

Purpose

The School Business Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing a commercial strategy to maximise the School’s revenue (including fee income from existing pupils, new pupils and third party letting income).

To work closely with the marketing and admissions teams to develop a coherent and targeted strategy to develop pupil numbers and maximise revenue.

To manage the finances of the school, including fee invoices, monthly accounts and management of the school budget. 

To manage the internal aspects of school life including transport, facilities, administrative functions and capital expenditure. 

To lead the appraisal process for all members of support staff across the school. 

To take a lead role in ensuring the school is compliant in all areas of ISI compliance framework, including health and safety management. This will involve working closely with the Head and Head’s PA on matters of HR compliance. 

Lead responsibility for fire procedures, disaster recovery plans and accessibility arrangements and other such policies and procedures.

To liaise with the Facilities Manager on the overall care of the school buildings and grounds. 

To manage external lettings and the use of the school by outside individuals and groups.

To manage the catering arrangements for Sherfield School, including working with the school caterers for both day to day planning and hospitality events. 

Liaise with the Head to ensure the IT function meets the needs of all IT users.


Principle Accountabilities

Assisting the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in maximising the revenue and profit of the school.  You will sit on the Senior Leadership Team, reporting to the Head and help make decisions about the day to day running of the business of the school. 

Working closely with SLT to maximise the school revenue both in and out of term time by integrating efficiently the commercial activity within the wider operations of the school. 

Leading and managing the support staff (admin, facilities, finance, transport and IT).

To negotiate and be responsible for all commercial contracts related to revenue generating activities or cost management.

Responsible for the strategic planning and marketing of the School and will work closely with SLT and the Marketing Manager in order to maximise opportunity available in school. 

Liaise with the Facilities Manager in management of school property and its use both internal and external.

Management of catering within the school, including liaising with the external catering company in terms of budget, costs and hospitality. 

To review the monthly management accounts where necessary.

Support the Head in developing additional revenue streams including letting of school facilities to external companies e.g. summer schools, weddings, training and corporate functions. 

Ensure all licences, insurance and registrations are in place and maintained in accordance with their terms (data controller). 

Negotiate favourable prices and contracts advising on best value. 

Oversee banking and administration of all matters associated with the school’s funds and be the named person to withdraw cash for use within the school from the school bank account.

Preparation of information for year end audit, liaising with auditors and senior stakeholders within that process.
