Job overview

We are looking for a Caretaker to join our friendly and supportive team. Granta School supports 180 students aged 3-19 with special educational needs.  The school is purpose built with a range of excellent facilities, which we continue to grow and develop to meet the changing needs of our students.

As Caretaker, you will support the Facilities Manager and School Business Manager to keep the school a safe and engaging environment for our students to learn in.  This will involve carrying out routine health and safety checks, preventative maintenance routines, minor repairs, cleaning and porterage duties.  Working closely with the SBM and Facilities Manager, you will help manage specialist contractors, supervising their work and providing access and support as required.

Previous experience of cleaning and caretaking/maintenance duties is essential.  Whilst experience in a special school or similar environment would be helpful in this role, it is not essential.  However, you will be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of how to work safely in our school and excellent attention to detail.  You will be calm and flexible in the face of changing priorities and be able to remain focussed in a busy environment.

As a key holder you will be responsible for securing the premises at the end of the day.  Previous experience of key holding duties is not essential as training will be provided.  However, you will be able to demonstrate that you are trustworthy and are able to work methodically to agreed procedures.

The working hours are specified on the job description attached.  There is an expectation that the successful candidate would be able to work flexibly.  A reasonable amount of paid overtime may be necessary.

COVID-safe visits to the school are warmly welcomed; please call the school office (01223 896890) to arrange this.

Granta School is committed to the promotion and safeguarding of children’s welfare and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment.  You will be able to demonstrate sensitivity towards the needs of young people with special needs and a commitment to keeping vulnerable children and adults safe.

All appointments are subject to satisfactory pre-employment clearances including the right to work in the UK, an enhanced DBS check and two satisfactory references. (References will be applied for prior to interview).

If you would like to apply for this position, please download the attached job description and person specification and the application form. This can be completed online or emailed directly to finance@granta.cambs.sch.uk

Closing Date: 6th January 2022, 12pm

We will shortlist and interview candidates as they apply, so earlier application is recommended.
