Job overview

Kingswood School has a vacancy for a Chaplain.  This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving independent school with 1100 students and 350 staff to lead the School’s worship and make a significant contribution to the School’s pastoral and wider life.

The School, founded by John Wesley in 1748, moved from Bristol to beautiful parkland on the northern edge of Bath in 1852 and is the world’s oldest Methodist educational institution.   John Wesley set out to provide academic rigour underpinned by Christian values within a caring and supportive community.  This aim remains central to the life of the School today.

The successful candidate is likely to be a Methodist minister but may be a probationer or minister of another denomination.  As pastor to all students and staff, candidates must have an approach which encourages a sense of trust, respect and inclusivity.

The Chaplain is expected to be fully involved in the life of the School, including its 24/7 boarding programme.  This post could be combined with an appropriate wider teaching or coaching commitment, depending on the qualifications, experience and interests of the candidate.

Further details of the School and an application pack are available from the Employment Opportunities section of our website: www.kingswood.bath.sch.uk or from the HR Department, email recruitment@kingswood.bath.sch.uk or telephone 01225 734350.

About Kingswood Senior School

At Kingswood we hope each young person will find a love of learning and a sense of joy in their own achievement and in that of others, combined with a reasoning judgement, the courage to question assumptions, and a willingness to lead and to serve.

Education that embraces these values enriches and gives deeper meaning to life. It makes the attainment of personal goals and achievements more certain, career advancement more likely, and happiness more secure.

As the Principal of the Kingswood Foundation (and the Headmaster of its senior school) I believe the senior school and the prep school form together a very special place in which young people have the opportunity to realize their potential in a very caring and friendly community. The schools are set within a uniquely beautiful estate on the northern edge of a world heritage city and this provides a wonderful environment in which to grow up and learn.

I hope you will come and visit us and see for yourself how we seek to develop each individual's character and talents by encouraging boys and girls to reach their fullest and best in every way.
