School Chaplain

After ten very happy and successful years at Alleyn’s, our School Chaplain will be leaving to take up a position as the Vicar of St. Michael at the Northgate, the city church of Oxford.  We therefore seek to appoint, for January 2019, an ordained Anglican priest to be School Chaplain, which is to say chaplain to the pupils, staff and parents of the Senior School and Junior School as well as the wider School community of friends, neighbours and alumni. The person appointed may also be a member of the teaching staff (the appointment will be made without regard to subject speciality), and teach a Senior School curriculum subject on a mutually agreed timetable, which will take account of pastoral work and the Chaplain’s wider role.

This is an exciting opportunity to demonstrate how such a post can make a difference to the lives of all teachers and pupils in a top academic day school.  Though it will be essential to have impressive experience and qualifications, the intention is to appoint the right person and not necessarily the person who best fits a predetermined set of skills.

The salary will be commensurate with the significant responsibility attached to this post and will be not less than £50,000 per annum.  Details will be discussed at interview.  The Chaplain will have his/her own office and secretarial support will be provided.  Family accommodation near the School is available as part of the remuneration package.

Application

If you wish to apply, an application pack is available using the links below or on our website, www.alleyns.org.uk/vacancies. Candidates should complete all sections of the Application Form, and should also include a covering letter addressed to Dr Gary Savage, Headmaster, explaining why they think they are particularly suited to the role and how it may fit in with future aspirations. Please also include an up to date CV, including full details of qualifications and experience, and a completed Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form.

All four documents should be emailed to personnel@alleyns.org.uk.  Alternatively they can be posted to: Dr Gary Savage, Headmaster, Alleyn’s School, Townley Road, London SE22 8SU.

Candidates are welcome to contact the current chaplain, Rev’d Anthony Buckley, chaplain@alleyns.org.uk if an earlier conversation would be helpful.

The deadline for applications is 9am on Friday 1 June but earlier applications will be welcome.

First round interviews will be held on Thursday 7 June.

Alleyn’s School is an Equal Opportunities employer, and welcomes applications for all posts from appropriately qualified persons regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, religion or belief.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
