We are seeking a professional Counsellor to work within Mount St Joseph Catholic School.
The role of Counsellor will be wide ranging and influence the lives of many students and staff. Given this, the Counsellor should expect to fully immerse themselves into the life of our school and will be required to adapt to the needs of the students over a wide age range.
Students range from 11-16 years. This is a key role within the pastoral structure of the school.
•To promote a caring and supportive environment where such concerns may be explored, thereby promoting the mental and emotional health of students and staff
•To liaise with staff and other professionals as appropriate to ensure the effective operation of the counselling service;
•To provide training and advice to staff on how to best manage the social, emotional and mental health issues students in their care face. This will likely range from of one to one informal advice sessions to more structured staff training sessions relating to key mental health issues;
•To run a weekly mindfulness group and/or other appropriate groups to enhance the pastoral support network.
•To be a presence around the school as a means to better understand and support the lives of the students
•To participate in, attend and/or lead workshops, meetings, INSET as required
•To provide support for assemblies on mental health and wellbeing;
•To contribute to the PSHE programme
•To speak with parents individually when this is appropriate and/or present talks from time to time which offer advice and strategies for dealing with various issues relevant to the age group of their children. This may include talks on stress, managing friendships and relationships, family dynamics etc.
•To promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils
•To liaise with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and pastoral team on a frequent basis;
•To play an active role in safeguarding children
