Location: Hertfordshire, initially based at Roman Fields for a year in Hemel Hempstead before transferring to our new purpose built free school in Welwyn. If this post is of interest and you live in Welwyn, we will pay transport costs, for the academic year you are based in Hemel, prior to transferring to the permanent home.

We are Ofsted ‘outstanding’ and holders of the National Autistic Society’s ‘Excellence Award,’ presented to just one school/provision nationally; we also hold their ‘advanced’ specialist status. Our new free school will open on the site of Roman fields for this academic year whilst we await our brand new building in September 2024.
The immediate role would involve supporting pupils on our existing site, all of whom are in receipt of an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan, and with 95% being on the autistic spectrum. We need someone who has the highest of expectations for our pupils, believes in forming strong relationships and has a deep understanding of the challenges that pupils with additional needs face. Close working relationships with all external and internal professionals are essential in ensuring that pupils have the support they need to achieve personally, socially, emotionally and academically.
We are seeking a qualified school counsellor who has experience of working with autistic pupils with complex needs. The school counsellor will work within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT). This is a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with a range of professionals and to use therapeutic skills creatively to meet the special educational needs of pupils. It is desirable that you have experience of providing specialist support and we will need you to have a focus on service development/service improvement. You may at times be required to review education and health and care plans as part of a wide multi-disciplinary team, so it is useful if you have experience in doing so.
At times and when required you will lead and/or participate in training with key staff members. The successful candidate will have experience of supporting pupils using informal and formal methods as well as being able to feed back to relevant stakeholders.
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and strongly motivated to join a multi-disciplinary team and has both an innovative and flexible working style. We need passion and commitment to providing high quality support for children of all abilities.

About Roman Fields Academy
Roman Fields is a county wide provision based near Hemel Hempstead. In 2018, Roman Fields was awarded the National Autistic Society's Excellence award their very top award, given annually to one school/college/provider only. Soon after, we had a successful Ofsted inspection, where we were graded "Outstanding" in all areas.
Roman Fields became an academy in April 2021 and will be a standalone academy within the James Marks Academy Trust, until it is joined by a second school, the purpose-built free school, the James Marks Academy, in Sept 2023.
Our small trust and the academies within it, will provide pupils, with bespoke timetables that build on their strengths and interests and thus allow them to both re-engage with, and re-discover their love of learning. We offer a provision for a wide range of abilities, including functional skills, vocational qualifications, GCSE and A Level. All pupils on roll have an EHC plan. Most of our pupils have an autism diagnosis, some have multiple diagnoses including SEMH. The vast majority of our pupils are in KS4 (14-16) and KS5 (16-18) we have a core offer of Maths, English, Science and ICT or Business. The rest of an individual pupil's timetable will be designed around their interests. We are also able to offer Humanities, Art and Music up to GCSE and beyond.
