If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a School Counsellor, starting from August 2024.

The ideal candidate will have a warm and compassionate approach, demonstrating an ability to quickly build a rapport with students whose families purchase counselling services. In addition, you would be expected to teach and contribute to the planning of support courses provided to students in small-group settings on topics such as anxiety management and developing social skills. You will also be responsible for observing confidentiality, adhering to ethical practices, and following the Inspired Schools group’s policies and procedures for safeguarding and the promotion of student health and wellbeing.

Counselling services

· To provide personalised, age-appropriate and professionally-sound one-to-one counselling services to the caseload of students specified by SEN Services Hub leaders

· To store personal data securely, in accordance with professional guidelines relating to your role

· To conduct all duties in accordance with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy Ethical Framework.

· To follow all safeguarding processes relevant to your role as a counselling professional

· To organise and engage in professional supervision appropriate to the counselling role

· Support processes to ensure accurate information is held by the school on all SEN needs, within BACP guidelines.

· To advise on adaptive teaching strategies for caseload students, sharing best practice with and training teachers. Support the self-evaluation of the school’s effectiveness and the development of priorities for improvement.

· To work with the Head of SEN Services and other team leaders to further the strategic development of the SEN Services Hub in line with school development plan priorities

· To be involved in training and guidance to staff relating to the SEN Services Hub, connected to the school development plan and the outcomes of quality assurance learning.

· To co-deliver calendared workshop events to parents to advise and guide on how to support their children.

· To contribute to, and cultivate, a culture of inclusivity and celebration of difference.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Teaching

· To lead and support the curriculum development and teaching of SEN Services Hub courses as specified by SEN Services Hub leadership

· Inspire, motivate and provide purposeful subject knowledge for students within the school

· Be up to date on current research and emerging pedagogy and apply this to your own session delivery and maintain active engagement in professional development with the learning community

· Take a leading role in maintaining a positive and inspirational learning climate in the subject specialism and, where appropriate, the integration of your subject learning across the curriculum

· Support the self-evaluation of the school’s effectiveness and the development of priorities for improvement.

· Assist in maintaining and developing a high-quality school environment and profile and act as a role model by your professional conduct and disposition.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:


· Masters degree level qualification in counselling-related subject or equivalent and membership of a counselling professional association such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, the National Counselling Society or the UK Council for Psychotherapy is desirable

· Specific training in counselling younger KS2 students appropriate for the role

· Personal skills essential to counselling roles such as discretion, respectfulness, patience, tolerance and resilience

· QTS is desirable as SEN Services Hub colleagues teach wellbeing-related courses as directed by the Head of SEN Services

· Knowledge of the correct safeguarding procedures

· Experience of working in an SEN setting or significant experience of work with SEN young people and their families

· Knowledge of the SEND code of practice and the practical implementation of this across all 4 broad areas of need

· A working knowledge of core processes for young people with SEND such as the graduated approach through assess, plan, do, review, EHCPs, and SEN funding streams

· Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills that showcase a caring and supportive stance to all stakeholders

· Attention to detail, confidence in handling data, and accuracy in work

· Excellent written and communication skills

· Ability to work well in teams

· Change and business improvement-focused

· Able to work effectively in dynamic and changing environments

· Experience with creating resources and the ability to review and enhance our current course delivery

· Computer literate with the ability to teach online using technology application

Our successful candidates will join a talented team providing excellent online educational experiences for our students whose ages range between 8 and 18. The successful candidates will demonstrate expertise and experience of delivering their subject specialism/s and come from either a state school and/or independent school background. Passionate about ensuring the students are at the centre of learning, the successful candidate will be used to deadlines, have experience of creating effective learning resources and having a key focus on the academic monitoring and progress of the students.

About our Roles

Here at InterHigh and Academy21, our Leaders of Learning (Teacher) contracts do differ from mainstream schools due to the nature of our business and ways of operating. As a Leader of Learning (Teacher) you will be contracted to 42 weeks of the year, up to 38 of these weeks are contact weeks with the students, with the remaining weeks being available for additional activity such as course writing.

You will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. During the school day there are allocated breaks in the morning, lunch time and in the afternoon, with breaks in between each lesson also.

Our lessons are 40 minutes long which ensures the time spent in the classroom is value added and effective. A full time Leader of Learning could be given a timetable with up to 33 lessons, equating to 22 hours of contact time.

As a business and a school, we do not follow the Teachers Mainstream Payscale, we operate in line with our own salary bandings. Further information specifically for each role will be available via the job adverts.
