Do you have the skills to communicate and support young people with challenging behaviour?

Grafham Grange School is looking for a very special person to take on the role of school counsellor.

The School:

Grafham Grange School is part of the Orchard Hill College Academy Trust (OHCAT). It is an academy for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, set in 42 acres of Surrey countryside, 20 minutes from Guildford. We currently have 50 students on roll, referred from local authorities across the south of England from the age of 10 to 16 (Year 6 to Year 11).

The school caters for students with Education, Health and Care Plans that identify Social, Emotional and Mental Health as the primary area of need. Many of our young people also have additional challenges and diagnosis such as ADHD.

The Vision:

The vision of Grafham Grange School and as such, the intent of the curriculum, is to be able to provide every child with access to an accredited education at a level appropriate to them, further tailored to meet their needs with opportunities for vocational learning. This combined with support to help them to learn strategies to deal with the anxiety and challenges they face, which impact on their self-belief, will enable them to succeed in education and beyond.

The Role:

To provide a high quality counselling service and support to students who may be experiencing a wide range of emotional concerns or problems.

To offer support, advice and guidance to parents, carers and school staff.

To support the school in their endeavour to incorporate a therapeutic understanding to teaching and learning across all aspects of the school curriculum.

Contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the well-being of the students.

The school is extremely well supported in its continual drive for excellence through its Governing Body and OHCAT. The school is committed to CPD across its staff teams.

Applicants must have their own transport due to the rural location of the school.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Janet Tremble, Principal j.tremble@grafham-grange.co.uk .

The school is very happy to accept visits from prospective candidates so that we can get the right person working with our young people. If you wish to visit please arrange a suitable day and time by contacting the school office on 01483 892214.

We reserve the right to appoint outstanding candidates prior to the closing date.

To apply for this role, please send your completed application form and queries, if any to schooloffice@grafham-grange.co.uk

Please note that CV applications will not be accepted.

Closing Date: 9am Monday 10th May 2021

Interview Date: W/C Monday 17th May 2021

Appointments made are subject to a probationary period and an enhanced DBS check.

Orchard Hill College and Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
