Job overview
The Royal School is seeking a highly motivated candidate with a Post-graduate Diploma or Masters-level qualification in Counselling or Psychotherapy, and an accreditation from a recognised CBT or counselling professional body to join this heavily oversubscribed day and boarding free school.
The candidate will have a demonstrable understanding of the developmental, emotional, social, and educational issues affecting young people from diverse backgrounds for pupils aged 5 to 18+ and staff.
The candidate will be expected to:
- Provide Primary and Secondary students and staff with individual counselling and support.
- Work with the school nurse and wellbeing team to provide a collective approach to addressing barriers to progress.
- Provide support and resources throughout the whole school to include but not limited to issues including bereavement and loss, transition, eating disorders and self-harm, depression and anger management, abuse of any kind, and anxiety/fears.
- Understand confidentiality and reporting procedures.

The Royal School Wolverhampton is a co-educational, all-through free school based in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, for students aged 4-19. The school is non-selective and non-denominational.
The Royal School was founded in 1850 as an orphanage by a local philanthropist and businessman, John Lees.
Boarders can join the school from age 10 upwards and stay in one of its single-sex boarding houses. Boarding accommodation is in spacious and well-equipped 25-acre grounds surrounded by woodlands, offering a secure and peaceful environment with the convenience of an urban setting.
