Job overview

If you have a passion to train to be a teacher in a friendly school with pupils who behave well and want to learn, then this is the post for you! We are looking to appoint enthusiastic, skilled and creative trainee teachers to train with us at Alderwood School, St Michael’s Infant and Junior Schools, Talavera Infant and Junior Schools, and Wellington Primary School from September 2018.

As the Lead School, Alderwood School has established strong links with schools in the local community, giving us the perfect partnership to train teachers across our schools. You must have a degree in order to undertake this training, or be due to complete your degree course this summer.

The successful candidate will undertake the PGCE training modules at the University of Winchester. You will then be at one or more of the above schools for your school placements. This School Direct training opportunity is not salaried but a bursary is available from the University.

If you are interested in finding out more about this exciting opportunity, please contact the school for an informal chat or, alternatively, find us on the UCAS website. Please note that you have to search for ‘Newport Junior School’ to find our course on the UCAS website. If you would like to apply, this must be done via the UCAS website.

Alderwood School is committed to safeguarding children and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks along with other relevant employment checks.

In our school, we are committed to securing genuine equality of opportunity, whether required by law or not, in all aspects of our activities as an employer and service provider. This commitment is based on our belief in the broad principles of social justice and our aim is to provide services and employment on a fair and equitable basis. Our staff are encouraged to demonstrate their commitment to equality by taking active steps to: eliminate discrimination, promote equality of opportunity and promote good race relations.

Interviews

Interviews will be held at the school as soon as possible after the closing date.

There will be an interview panel comprising of the Headteacher and a representative from the University of Winchester. The Headteacher has undertaken the ‘Safer Recruitment in Schools’ training.
