Wolverhampton Grammar School is seeking dedicated and thoughtful individuals to join our Director’s Board. At WGS, we call our governing board members, Directors.
Founded in 1512, We are proud to be one of the oldest schools in the country but forward-looking in our approach. We provide education to boys and girls from Reception through to Year 13 (ages 4 – 18) across our Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form and our students come from all kinds of backgrounds and cultures.

Your Role as a Director
As a school Director, you will play a crucial role in:
Setting the strategic direction of the school and ensuring we achieve our mission and objectives.
Overseeing the financial performance of the school and ensuring its viability.
Ensuring the school provides a high-quality education to all students.
Acting as a critical friend to the school leadership, providing support and challenge.
We are looking for:
Passion and commitment to education and young people
The ability to analyse and interpret information.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
A willingness to challenge and ask critical questions.
Skills in accountancy or finance, whether acquired through working in industry or through running your own business, would be valuable, but not essential. Similarly, anyone from a background in nutrition or health would be welcome. Previous experience in governance may be helpful, but we provide training and support to all our Directors. We particularly welcome prospective Directors from minority ethnic backgrounds.
Commitments involve attending approximately 6 early-evening meetings per year, with visits to the school during the working day encouraged where possible.

Entry Requirements
The School accepts applications to the Junior, Senior School and Sixth Form throughout the year. We are a selective, independent school and to ensure our school is the right fit for your child we ask all applicants to sit an assessment/entrance test relevant to their year of entry. Applicants to the Sixth Form are also invited to meet with the Head of Sixth Form.
