An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Governing Body at King’s School, Rochester. Governors are responsible for the strategic direction and vision of the school and overseeing financial performance. King’s School Governors are truly at the heart of everything we do.

King’s is a co-educational, independent school with 660 pupils between the ages of 3 – 18, including 50 boarders. It is formed of a Nursery/Pre-Preparatory School, a Preparatory School and a Senior School. The school has a long and impressive heritage, having been founded in 604 AD and has strong links with Rochester Cathedral. The Bishop is the Patron and the Dean and Chapter form part of the Governing Body.

Following the recruitment of a new Chair of Governors we are seeking dynamic and motivated individuals to expand the existing Governing Body. We are seeking applications from high-calibre professionals from all backgrounds, but particularly welcome applicants with strong strategic experience in financial services, insurance, legal, property/operations management, architecture and engineering. Candidates with experience working in the education, community or charitable sectors, or with children and young people or SEND are also encouraged to apply.

The role is non-remunerated, but expenses will be paid. The role will require a commitment of around ten days a year which will include attending Governors Meetings, serving on one of the Sub-Committees and attending training and development opportunities. There will also be an opportunity to be an active member of the King’s community and attend school events throughout the year.

King’s Rochester is a mixed, non-selective, Church of England, all-through school with nursery classes and sixth form situated in Rochester, Kent. It is an independent school with boarding provision and an associate member of the Woodard Foundation. A smaller than average school, King’s Rochester provides 800 places for nursery, preparatory, senior and sixth-form students between the ages of 3 and 18 when fully subscribed.

The oldest choir school and the second oldest school in the world, King’s Rochester has roots dating back to the founding of Rochester Cathedral in the year 604 AD. King Henry VIII refounded the school in 1542.

“The pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is excellent. Pupils demonstrate mutual respect, a strong sense of fairness and excellent behaviour. There is an easy mix of the different cultures within the school. Pupils develop well in knowledge, skills and understanding. Some more able pupils achieve excellent standards in activities, for example in music, individually in sports, and in the performing arts.”
