Job overview
Applefields School are looking for a kitchen assistant to work in our busy school kitchen with our existing catering team to start as soon as possible. The post is 4 days a week 9 am to 2 pm, with a temporary secondment to 5 days a week to cover an upcoming planned absence.
As a member of our catering team, you will be performing a variety of tasks to help prepare tasty, balanced, and nutritional meals from locally sourced fresh produce.
Your role will be to support the cook/manager to deliver an effective and efficient catering service based on the needs of the school.
On a daily basis you will carry out food preparation operating to the highest standards of food safety. Setting out and clearing away dining furniture, serving meals to students and staff, washing up and cleaning the kitchen and dining rooms.
Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate is essential on appointment.

Applefields School is a popular and highly regarded special school for secondary age students (11-19 years) with moderate, severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties and a significant number of students with additional needs on the autistic spectrum. We support students from York and the surrounding areas of North Yorkshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire. At the beginning of the current school year (2024/25) there are 220 pupils on roll, it is projected that numbers will rise in September 2025.
