Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, confident and highly organised School Librarian to promote and develop our library service to all pupils, complementing and enhancing the school curriculum.

Working arrangements: 40 hours per week, worked between 8.00am and 5.00pm with an unpaid break. This position is term time (35 weeks) plus an additional week (5 days) during school holidays for library set up and out-of-term administrative duties. Whilst the role would ideally be filled on a full-time basis, we are open to discussing other work patterns.

With two school libraries to maintain (offering a welcoming reading and research environment for children from nursery to Year 8), the role would suit someone who is both methodical and creative, with a genuine love for reading who can, in turn, inspire and spark this same passion for reading in our children. You will have the ability to quickly pick up systems and analyse data whilst keeping abreast of new authors.

We are eager to hear from those with librarian and/or school experience, as we anticipate the role may attract candidates with different experience, including an experienced librarian, teacher or teaching assistant looking for a change in direction. The ideal candidate will be highly professional and approachable with a positive approach to learning and will, ideally, have some experience of supervising children. Whilst the role would not require someone to be qualified or experienced in teaching, you will have ‘teaching skills’ and the ability to support different age groups.

To fully embrace the school ethos, we are looking for someone who can demonstrate professionalism, flexibility and excellent communication skills.

With a nurturing approach to supporting children’s learning, the successful candidate will be child-focused with a clear understanding of their safeguarding responsibilities.

Staff benefits include:

  • Salary sacrifice group pension scheme
  • Life insurance (death in service) benefit (4x annual salary)
  • Free parking
  • Free lunch options for all staff (including school lunch during term time)
  • Generous fee discount for staff children
  • Salary Sacrifice cycle-to-work and tech scheme available
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Opportunity to work additional hours may be available

For further information and assistance in applying for the position or if you would like to visit the School for a tour and discussion, please contact the HR department on 0121 454 1496 ext. 212.
