Job overview

The Douay Martyrs Catholic Secondary School is looking to recruit a self-motivated, enthusiastic and energetic Librarian who is passionate about reading and literacy, to work in our newly refurbished library.  You will be required to manage and maintain the school library, be able to promote a love of reading and contribute to the whole school Reading and Literacy Programme. You will also work closely with the English department.

This role is ideal for anyone considering a future career in teaching, ideally as an English specialist, or someone with a real interest in reading and literacy. As well as fulfilling the requirement of an extremely proactive librarian role, the position would also involve working with small groups of students.

The successful candidate will possess the skills and confidence to instruct groups of young people in literacy skills and ensure that the school library is an attractive and stimulating environment to support the highest possible level of educational experience for all users. You will be self-motivated, enthusiastic and energetic with the ability to remain calm and professional at all times. Experience of working with young people and in a library environment would be beneficial but is not essential.

Hours of work are from 8.15 am to 4.30 pm daily, term time, plus a couple of days during school holidays for stock taking, report writing and planning.
