Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the management, development and promotion of the library at Oxford High School.

Whilst previous experience and qualifications are desirable, we welcome applications from candidates with transferable experience, a high level of organisational skills and knowledge and love of children’s literature.

The library is the heart of the school and promotes a curiosity for learning and passion for reading. You will be responsible for a range of tasks within the library, including managing the issuing and returning of the library’s stock, shelving stock and keeping the library in good order. You will collaborate with teaching staff to research, select and advise on learning resources including textbooks, to support the curriculum, and teaching and learning in general. You will be responsible for acquiring new stock and for managing the school’s archives. You will also be responsible for supervising students using the library, including for study.

Additionally, you will collaborate with teaching staff in the planning, development and delivery of relevant learning and study skills programmes and will teach students how to make use of the library and its resources and promote reading for pleasure.

This post is full time, during term time only, and requires an additional 5 days of work during the school holidays.  

The core working hours are likely to be: 08:30am - 16:30pm.

About Oxford High School for Girls GDST

Oxford High School is an independent, non-denominational, all-through school for girls without nursery and with sixth form, situated in three sites in Summertown, North Oxford. It is one of 26 members of the GDST (Girls’ Day School Trust), meaning it is governed by the council and operates according to the trust’s policy. The school provides 906 places for primary, secondary and sixth-form students aged 4-19.

Oxford High School was founded in 1875 and is the oldest girls' school in the city. Until recently it accepted boys into its junior school, but is now girls-only.
