Job overview

Oakbank School is a rapidly growing, 11-16 secondary school located in rural Berkshire underpinned by our core values of Excellence, Collaboration, and Integrity. We are a friendly community-based school, with a firm commitment to providing professional development opportunities for our staff and a passionate belief that every student in our school matters. As a smaller than average secondary school we offer a unique family focused environment whilst benefitting from the collaboration and opportunities that arise from being part of the successful Anthem Multi-Academy Trust.

We are looking for an inspiring and passionate librarian to promote the school library and to play a key role in supporting students’ literacy. The successful applicant will be pivotal in supporting their development into effective, independent learners with a life-long passion for reading.

Our open-spaced library is at the centre of the school and is used in a variety of ways including a place for silent reading, independent revision, researching the array of reference/fiction books, along with a suite of IT facilities. This post offers an exciting opportunity to re-shape our existing provision and be part of developing a thriving library which is at the heart of our school for both students and staff alike. As part of the school’s planned expansion, a period of refurbishment of our wider facilities is currently being undertaken and the post holder will be integral to aiding the development of the library facilities.

The successful candidate will:

• have an up-to-date understanding of research-based strategies to develop literacy levels in young people.

• Be approachable and a positive role model to the whole school community enabling you to the develop the library into a resource for all students to use throughout the school day.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and require all staff and volunteers to share and demonstrate this commitment. The successful candidate will have to meet the requirements of the person specification and will be subject to the relevant pre-employment checks which will, where applicable, include a health check, an enhanced DBS check, the Children’s Barred List check and satisfactory references.

It is an offence for an individual who has been disqualified from working with children to knowingly apply for, offer to do, accept, or do any work in a ‘regulated activity’. The position advertised is a ‘regulated activity’.

Anthem will undertake a basic online check for all shortlisted candidates.
