Job overview

Do you want to assist in providing first class nursing at Emanuel School? Do you want to contribute to a school environment that promotes healthy living? If this appeals to you, then an exciting opportunity exists at Emanuel School for a School Nurse.

As School Nurse you will work alongside the lead school nurse, providing medical support to pupils and staff throughout the school. Working in our medical room, you'll become a part of a wider pastoral team whose aim is to promote the physical health and emotional wellbeing of the pupils. This support is designed to meet a wide range of day-to-day needs. From meeting the physical needs of some pupils and the administering of first aid, to guiding pupils who might need psychological support.  The role is varied but a vital one in our school community.

We welcome applications from people with appropriate qualifications, including a degree in nursing or RGN, as well as current NMC registration. You will be knowledgeable and approachable, with the ability to communicate with, and build effective relationships with pupils, parents and staff.  Additional experience of working with children across the senior school age range and in a school environment would be an advantage.

In return, we can offer the following benefits:

  • Defined pension contribution scheme, with up to 10% employer contribution and life insurance cover
  • Free lunches
  • Simply Health healthcare plan, including flu jabs, online GP service and counselling
  • Discounts in local shops, restaurants and businesses
  • Season ticket loans and ride to work scheme
  • Training and development support

About Emanuel School

“The school whole-heartedly fulfils its aims to inspire endeavour, confidence and ambition in its pupils.”

ISI Inspection Report April 2023

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1000 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.

We are an ambitious community. This summer, 87% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 37% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 53%. This is 20% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic outcomes in the country. The recent ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”

We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next 3-4 years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both areas of traditional strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in last year’s Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.

Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.

At the heart of our school is a positive and welcoming culture. We are fortunate to have a committed and talented group of colleagues, people who recognise the importance of everyone at the school having a varied working life, a sense of personal growth and shared enjoyment. We wish you the best of luck with your application.
