Description

St Joseph's College, Lochinvar is seeking a temporary part time (14 hours per week) School Officer – Food Operations & General Assistant  to join the school community commencing in Term 1, 2021.   

St Joseph’s College, founded by the Sisters of St Joseph in 1883 is a co-educational secondary school providing a rich and diverse educational experience for 940 students from Years 7 to 12. The College aspires to be a place of learning where students, staff and families are valued and respected for their uniqueness. Located in the stunning Hunter Valley, St Joseph’s has a blend of heritage and modern buildings which include a Chapel & Heritage Centre, new Administration and Resource Centre, a purpose-built hall and associated Café & Hospitality Centre, as well as recently refurbished Performance and Creative Arts spaces.   Position Requirements In this position you will work under the supervision of the Food Operations Manager at the direction of the Principal to deliver high quality service for 14 hours per week in support of Food Operations



Key Duties include -

• Assisting in the development of menus and food products for the Canteen & Café with a focus on health and nutrition

• Supporting menu preparation, associated sourcing and assembly of ingredients, as well as preparation for Food Technology and VET Hospitality classes

• Providing assistance in the operation of the College Café and Canteen as required

• Maintaining proper food hygiene and safety practices

• Support and carry out equipment maintenance in Food Operations

• Ensuring hygiene and cleanliness of facilities and equipment associated with all aspects of Food Operations

• Assisting with basic, general food preparation (e.g. fresh-made fruit salad, sandwiches)

• Assist in preparation and delivery of catered functions at the college

• Assisting the broader team as required

Essential Criteria

 • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and a commitment to actively support the Catholic ethos and culture of the school

• Relevant qualifications and experience including in a food operations, industry setting

• Demonstrated knowledge of current food safety practices and standards

• Demonstrated experience in food handling and preparation

• Excellent customer service skills

• Demonstrated experience maintaining a safe working environment

• Ability to maintain equipment, resources and accurate documentation

• Capacity to demonstrate a high level of professionalism

• Ability to be flexible and adaptable

• Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality

• Excellent written communication skills and strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills

• Self-motivated with ability to work autonomously and be responsible and accountable for own work with the capacity and willingness to work in a team environment;

• Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities


The applicant must provide evidence of the following:

• Current Paid Working with Children Check (WWCC)number;

• Completion of Anaphylaxis training. 


Desirable Criteria

 •Previous experience in a similar role

• Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training – or equivalent

• Ability to prepare and serve espresso coffee  

Commencement Starts: ASAP

Finishing Date: 27/01/2022

Conditions of Employment: Salary is in accordance with New South Wales & Australian Capital Territory Catholic Systemic Schools Enterprise Agreement 2017.
