Job overview

We are seeking a Science Laboratory Technician to contribute to the effective management of the school science department.

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have a commitment to and understanding of the ethos and traditions of Catholic Education
• Currently hold or be eligible to hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card
• Be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment
• Hold a current driver’s licence
• Have knowledge of or ability to learn to use the ChemWatch and RiskAssess Databases and Excel Spreadsheets
• Have science qualifications at Certificate level or above

About the Role

o Liaison with teaching and non-teaching staff on their needs for practical work
o Handling laboratory chemicals/laboratory waste storage/preparation/disposal
o Laboratory set-up of practical lessons/demonstrations and support in classes
o Maintaining and storage of scientific equipment and chemicals in a safe, orderly and secure manner
o Field trip preparation and teacher support
o Assist with administrative duties, annual stock take, hazardous substances register, and other relevant registers as required by legislation.

Weeks Worked:  School term weeks only (holidays unpaid)

Tenure Duration (If Fixed Term):  

Total Paid Hours (per wk) & Days Required:   15 hours per week

Salary Level, Range or Hourly Rate:   School Officer Level 4 - $29.93 per hour

Employment Conditions:   Diocesan Catholic Education Employing Authorities in Queensland Single Interest Agreement 2015-2019


This position involves working with children.  The appointment of successful applicants will be subject to satisfactory employment screening for child related employment in accordance with the law.
