Job overview
The role
Emanuel School is looking for an experienced physiotherapist to lead the assessment, treatment and ongoing management of our student athletes. This part-time role is ideal for someone looking to combine school-based work with their own private practice or another part-time position.
Sport plays a central role in life at Emanuel, and the School Physio is key to supporting the health, wellbeing, and performance of our pupils. You will work closely with our Directors of Sport, Head of Athletic Development, the school medical team and a dedicated team of coaches to provide high-quality care and injury management. This will involve assessing injuries, managing treatment and recovery plans, providing pitch-side support during sporting events, and managing medical supplies.
You will be a warm and confident physio, with a degree-level qualification in physiotherapy and good manual therapy skills. You should have demonstrable experience working as a physiotherapist, ideally with young athletes, and have specific knowledge of managing head injuries and return-to-play protocols. Strong interpersonal, organisational and IT skills are essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively with pupils, staff and parents.
Working at Emanuel
There is always a buzz at Emanuel. Colleagues enjoy their work and, like the pupils, are ambitious for the school. With a weekly staff briefing, half termly staff meetings, termly consultative group meetings and a common room committee, all of us are engaged in a lively ongoing dialogue about the school’s aims and aspirations.
Everyone works hard here, and anyone joining us should expect to do the same and share our commitment to the highest standards. At the same time our ethos remains unpretentious, kindly and practical, and there’s a strong sense of community and friendship at the school.
We aim to look after our staff well: we have an appraisal scheme with a focus on employees’ professional development; we sponsor postgraduate courses and a range of training opportunities; we offer salary sacrifice childcare vouchers through TEDS Premier, we offer a healthcare plan via Simply Health that includes counselling and medical support; and we’re committed to supporting staff wellbeing. Financially, all staff benefit from good pension provision and free lunches.

About Emanuel School
“The school whole-heartedly fulfils its aims to inspire endeavour, confidence and ambition in its pupils.”
ISI Inspection Report April 2023
Welcome to Emanuel
We are a vibrant, fully co-educational school of over 1,100 pupils aged 10–18, supported by more than 200 dedicated teaching and support staff. Emanuel is a community driven by aspiration: our pupils, colleagues, and families share a commitment to excellence, personal growth, and lifelong learning.
This ambition is reflected in our record-breaking achievements. In 2025, 46% of GCSE grades were awarded the top grade 9, with 75% at 9–8 and 91% at 9–7 – the best results in the school’s history. At A Level, over 70% of grades were A*–A, with nearly a third awarded A*. Emanuel is now recognised as one of the leading fully co-educational schools in the country. The latest ISI Inspection report stated: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”
Our aspirations extend far beyond the classroom. We nurture talent in every field, with a deep commitment to sport, the arts, and STEM. We invest significantly in our facilities, including a £30 million STEM and Refectory building currently underway, which will provide state-of-the-art science labs, maths classrooms, and vibrant social spaces. Our creative arts provision has earned national recognition, including the Independent School of the Year for Performing Arts (2023), while our work in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion won the Talk Education Award (2024).
Connection lies at the heart of Emanuel life. Our thriving partnerships programme creates meaningful links with the wider community, welcoming over 1,000 primary school children to our site each month to learn alongside our pupils. This work was recognised with the Independent School of the Year Award for Community Outreach (2021).
Empathy shapes our culture. Emanuel is a positive and welcoming environment where every individual is valued, supported, and encouraged to thrive. Our talented and dedicated colleagues share a belief in the power of kindness, collaboration, and personal fulfilment. Together, we ensure that staff and pupils alike enjoy a sense of belonging and shared achievement.
We wish you the very best of luck with your application.
