Runnymede College is a private non-denominational British school in Madrid offering a British education to boys and girls of all nationalities from the age of two to eighteen. The education offered follows the British National Curriculum.

Founded as a private school in September 1967, the primary school was inaugurated in 1987, and since 1990, the whole School has been situated in La Moraleja, a residential estate 13 km to the north of Madrid.

The school is looking to recruit a bilingual (native level English speaking) School Secretary (maternity cover contract until May 2024).

The chosen candidate will become a key member of this busy administrative team.

Responsibilities (among others):

  • Acting as the “face” of the school and as the first point of contact for parents, students, prospective parents and visitors.
  • Managing the school attendance registers and updating with absences, late arrivals and appointments.
  • Overseeing the end of day arrangements for all students up to and inclusive of Year 6.
  • Managing Extracurricular Activities: Liaising with service providers, student enrolment, maintaining registers and communication of attendees to relevant teachers / coaches.
  • Liaising with our partnered bus company to register students. Processing updates via the BatOnRoute app.
  • Handling admissions tests and school tours.
  • Acting as the “go to” person for all staff requests.
  • Booking meeting rooms and event spaces.
  • Receiving and shipping letters, courier packages and managing deliveries.
  • Troubleshooting requests via the telephone and by email in both English and Spanish.
  • Assisting the administrative team (admissions, systems support etc.) with a range of tasks when required.
  • Representing the school and behaving in line with school ethos and traditional values.
  • You will be expected to stay late several times a year for Parent's Evenings, Prize Giving, VI Form Leaver's Dinner, etc.
  • Working hours 08:00-17:00 or 09:00-18:00 with an hour for lunch. During half terms you will work 08:00-14:00 or 09:00-15:00. At Christmas and Easter you will work 08:00-14:00 or 09:00-15:00 and you will be entitled to 4 days holiday.
  • Temporary contract (contrato eventual) from June - September 2023, maternity cover contract from September 2023.


Successful candidates should:

  • Be a native level English speaker or entirely bilingual (this requirement is non-negotiable)
  • Have a university degree or have completed secretarial studies
  • Previous experience in front office/client facing roles
  • Be extremely personable and well presented
  • Have a polite telephone manner
  • Thrive in a busy environment and enjoy working in a client facing capacity


Other desirable but not essential criteria include:

  • Previous work experience in a school office
  • Additional foreign languages

About Runnymede College

Runnymede College is a private school that provides a British education for English-speaking students of all nationalities who are resident in Madrid.

The aims of the School are:

  • To provide an all-round, academic, liberal humanist education to all students regardless of their sex, race, religion or nationality. There is no religious instruction.
